Does soy milk contain calcium?!

Question:

Does soy milk contain calcium?

I get recurrent kidney stones and the doc said to limit or end my milk intake. I LOVE milk and was interested in switching to soy, but all the soy containers say "calcium fortified." Are there any that have little or no calcium?

Answers:
I have good news for you.

It's not exactly the calcium fortification that causes your stones.

You see, there is very little calcium in milk. Your body only gains 35 milligrams and that's whole milk. Skim or fat free, even less.

The problem is - our body leeches calcium from our bones in order to process animal protein. Milk, cheese and I'm sorry to say - meat.

Which means you can drink all the soy milk you want and not have a problem.

Also, if you make heavy use of antacids, you'll want to stop. Another thing that causes stones is the antacid/soda pop combination.

i bet you can find some somewhere... i dunno about you but to me soy milk tastes like playdough... drink lots of cranberry juice!

Nope not that I know of considering milk and soy milk are supposed to be a "Good source of calcium" they wont take the calcium out. You might have to try a different type of milk maybe, almond, goat....yuck, I could not do it. Just drink water everyday until you dont think about milk anymore is what I would recommend. Good Luck

no, I don't think so..

no.

go to Whole Foods store , they have different kinds of milks.
here is the website: www.wholefoods.com

GOOD LUCK

"Soy milk is nutritionally close to cow's milk, though most soy milk commercially available today is enriched with added vitamins such as vitamin B12. It naturally has about the same amount of protein as cow milk.

Natural soy milk contains little digestible calcium as it is bound to the bean's pulp, which is insoluble in a human. To counter this, many manufacturers enrich their products with calcium carbonate which can dissolve in the acid of the stomach.

Notably it has little saturated fat, which many consider to be a benefit. Lower fat varieties, however, contain less protein than cow's milk."

Yes, it does, but different brands have different amounts. Check the labels of your favourite brands the next time you're shopping, and you'll find one that meets your satisfaction in no time!

yes

I just wanted to second everything Max Marie said..she is right on the mark!!
