Why dont vegetarians eat meat?!

Question:

Why dont vegetarians eat meat?

i just want to know i'm not trying to be mean.

Answers:
Hi,
Here is some of the reasoning behind why people become vegetarians.
:)

Health-
Meat-eating diets are at higher risk for kidney disease, some cancers, osteoporosis, obesity, heart disease and hypertension.

The environment-
Annually, an acre of land can produce 40,000 pounds of potatoes, 50,000 pounds of tomatoes, or a paltry 250 pounds of beef.

If Americans would reduce meat consumption by just 10%, enough grain would be saved to feed the 60,000,000 people who die of hunger each year.

Mind you, businesses understand there is no money in feeding the world, but a great deal of damage is being done to the planet by the meat industry. Many groups feel as though a person cannot be an environmentalist without being a vegetarian, if that gives you an idea of the global impact of meat.

Animal Suffering
For those of us who actually passed 7th grade biology and understand that while both are living, plants and animals are quite different, we choose not to eat animals. Animals possess a central nervous system that allows them to feel pain and a limbic area of the brain that allows them to feel emotions such as fear and sadness.

It is not simply a matter of people killing animals, but that the animals bread for our consumption live lives of constant torture and agony. Around eight billion animals are killed for food every year in the U.S. alone -- a number greater than the entire human population of the planet.

Anyway, that is not everything, but only some pieces of the thoughts behind why some people choose not to eat animals.

Thanks

because we're vegetarians?
this is a weird question.
I choose not to because of health and animal cruelty reasons.

it's a choice they make not to consume animals. Some on the basis not to harm animals, and being against the factory farms that treat animals unfairly by keeping them in small cages to slaughter them and sell them.

Most meats are made from animals and they think it's wrong to
kill animals and eat them!

Different reasons for most. For me, I have issues with the animal cruelty things. That aside, meat is unsanitary. Animals raised for food are fed an unnatural diet, kept in deplorable conditions, have diseases that are treated with antibiotics and steroids, and are given growth hormones to make them ready for slaughter faster. All of that ends up in the meat, including whatever disease the animal had. There is cholesterol, fat, urine, blood, pus, fecal matter, and a host of other nasty things in meat. I get everything I need from a plant and grain based diet, so I see no need to add in stuff that my body doesnt know what to do with, or for some animal to have to die, just so I can eat. Its just common sense, as for me. My veggies don't bleed or scream. I just give them a quick wash, and they are good to go.

they don't eat meat because they think it is wrong to eat a living animal...but there is always a down side to every thing like you don't get the protien and other stuff you need so i hope that helps you question that is kinda weird

They think that it's cruel to kill animals for food but I say God gave us aminals for food to eat not just plants

Because they think they are killing cute and cuddly living creatures (which wouldn't exist if they hadn't been bred for meat anyway).

Whats really ironic is that plants are LIVING things too! And don't get me started on those that claim to be vegitarian but they eat fish....what, so a fish ISN'T an animal?? What is it then, a potatoe?? (Which incidentally also lives and grows so is alive...)

Well Some vegetarians want to help animals not eat them. Others just want to eat healthy

some people don't eat meat because their body can't process it that well. people watching their cholesterol, fat intake. There are alot of health benefits to it. Other people choose not to eat meat because of the way the animals are slaughtered also different chemicals animals are injected with for various reasons!

people become veggies for different reasons. some do it because their religion requires it (7th Day Adventists, Buddhists, etc). other do it for their health- to lower their cholesterol, saturated fat, to lose weight, etc. and finally, people like me do it because we think it is cruel and inhumane to brutalize and kill animals and we don't want to support an industry that does that. we also find the idea of eating flesh disgusting.
thanks for being polite instead of criticizing us! =)

There are as many different answers to this question as their are fish in the sea.

The top reasons people are vegetarians:
- they want to eat healthier (cholesterol)
- many object to the mass factory farms and mistreatment
- others believe they are sentinent beings and shouldn't be eaten (which is different than just being alive)

TRUE vegetarians don't eat any meat - including fish and seafood. Sometimes you may hear someone being referred to as a pesca-vegetarian (eats fish). It's more like being semi-vegetarian.

Strict vegetarians consume no animal products at all.

Lacto-ovo vegetarians don't eat animal flesh but do eat eggs and dairy.

Vegans are strict vegetarians and may also abstain from using animal products like leather, honey, beeswax, char-bone processed sugar, carmine (a red color from bugs which is in everything from yogurt to makeup), Worsterchire sauce (made with fish), along with the normal refraining from dairy and eggs.

Good luck with your search!

I can only speak for myself but I became a vegetarian when I answered two questions in my mind...Do I eat animals and take their life because I need to for survival or because I like they way they taste ? Second I wondered if they could talk so I could understand them (in English I mean ) and said do not hurt me or eat me... would I ? So that was it ... and I have been happier ever since for the past 35 years..

What about cruelty to plants? Quit letting your dogs pee on the grass.

There are a few reasons I don't eat meat.

When I started being a veg. it was because I didn't like meat anymore. It grossed me out to think it was dead flesh. I never really liked the texture of meat, especially chicken. I hated preparing food in my home if I had to touch raw meat.

Another reason I'm a veg is because I eat waaaaaay healthier this way. I feel so much better and have more energy!

The last but of course not the least reason is because of the inhumane way most animals are treated that will be used for food. In my daily life I try to not even kill bugs, so this is important to me.

Usually it's because of religon. We just don't like eating the animals.

because vegetarians dont want to hurt animals or living things but what they dont realize is that plants r living things too they just cant talk or move but they r living so they r technically hurting living things

im not a vegetarian but my friend-enemy is a vegetarian.she doesnt eat meat because shes indian.i dont no y but she said it was againist her religish(sp?)beliths(sp?)

-(im not good at spelling, prefer math more.)

because some think its wrong to kill animals

because theyre paranoid of eating something that taste so good.
