Burgers, sausages and filets do not resemble animals. I've never seen a burger or sausage grazing have you?

I guess a lot of former meat eaters miss the taste of meat and want something just as good with out the meat.

Because some vegetarians aren't in it for health but just to save the lives of animals. Some vegetarians still like the taste of meat...so having veggie replacements makes the transition easier.

Why eat chicken? Well we eat a TON of chicken.. 70% of the protein we eat for dinner is chicken! First of all, I can get a 3lb bag of frozen chicken breasts at WalMart for $5.50!

So basically, I eat chicken because it is cheap.
Not to mention Quorn is hard to find and expensive when you do find it. (In my area, anyway)

well your body always needs healthy protiens from meat but vegitartians can get the protiens from nuts. maybe they have a religous reason why they cant eat meat.

Some meat eaters long to become vegetarians, and I think the transition becomes easier when you can trick yourself into thinking you're eating the real deal. Fake meats have become a lot more popular, and because of the whole supply and demand thing, pretty much every kind of meat imaginable has a vegetarian version. I suppose too, they're good for meat eaters who suffer from high cholesterol, then they can still get the taste and texture without all the risk of keeling over from a heart attack.

Who's the bigger market? Vegetarians or meat eaters? You'll find that every major company making meat substitutes aims at meat eaters looking to cut back on meat. Keep in mind that Wal-Mart (through Sam's Club) sells soyburgers that contain beef flavoring and beef fat!

Morningstar Farms and Worthington started out marketing their products to Seventh Day Adventists who remove meat for religious reasons. They're both (along with Loma Linda and Natural Touch) owned by Kellogg's that dumped a LOT of the products that only veggies used! They're aiming squarely at aging meat eaters that need to reduce LDL levels.

Quorn is in the same boat; their products were designed from the ground (literally) up to be a replacement for meat eaters and the 'accident' that they're lacto-ovo vegetarian was just a coincidence!

Boca and GardenBurger were originally aimed at vegetarians but they're both now owned by conglomerates that are following the same pattern; dump the veggie market and concentrate on unhealthy meat eaters for the big bucks!
