Is it now safe to eat spinach?
Answers:
yes! eat up! spinach is good for you :-D
Yes, I never worried about it...
now it is because they took care of it
it has always been safe to eat spinach. the e.coli outbreak had nothing to do with the spinach itself, but the factory-farm that it was grown in, and the lack of care given to the crops. it's hard to pay attention to everything when there is so much to take care of--those farms are thousands and thousands of acres, and it can be really hard for the workers to attend to every plant.
i'd suggest avoiding pre-bagged lettuces and spinach, and going for local (and organic, if possible) spinach from the farmer's market, where you can actually meet the people who grow your food. if there are no markets this time of year in your area, check out what's in season at the local grocery store. you'll probably be able to find loose or bunched spinach near the other greens.
Nothing is a hundred percent safe. The epidemic is over though. The problem that caused it is still there. Factory farming has left our food supply vulnerable to this large scale recalls. Since most Spinach enter a single location to be processed, a single contamination can knock out the majority of our spinach supply. One bad apple spoil the barrel. 80% of our spinach go through that single barrel.
yes,eating spinach is safe.
As long as you cook it, you're safe. E. coli bacteria are killed by heat.
I just finished my 8th bag of spinach since the outbreak, am NOT sick never got sick so think maybe it was just a thing that happens from time to time. I do wash my veggies with a 1% bleach solution BEFORE I prepare them for consumption that way I'm sure there isn't bad stuff on them.
never knew it was unsafe.
