Are nuts classified as meat?!?!

Question:

Are nuts classified as meat?!?

My stupid friend Monica thinks that nuts are meat!!! And she says they are the same section as meat!? but I am trying to tell her that that is cause they are protein! Can you please tell my idiotic friend that nuts are not meat!

Answers:
Just because nuts are classified with meat on a food pyramid does not make them meat. That group is for food with protein. Nuts come from plants. Meat comes from animals. Nuts do not come from animals, so they are not meat. It's that simple.

Yes, they're in the same section on the food pyramid, but they're only there because they have high protein, just like the meat:)

nuts come from plants. they're usually come from a fruit with one seed.

some nuts aren't really nuts in a botanical sense but legumes which come from the ground (peanuts). In a culinary sense, the word nuts is used more loosely. Walnuts are a true nut because the walnut contains the seed inside.

nuts are fascinating, but they're not a meat.

you are wright, there is no way they are protein, they contain mostly helthy fats so you can clasify them as fats and oils (for weight watchers) but actually there is category nuts and seeds.

not.....but i gotta say to S1 who ever that is that answered also, where did you learn to spell? did lack of meat protein make your brain malfunction to the point that you cant spell correctly?

not. its not. it is a nut. ur friend is a nut.

NO NUTS ARE NOT MEAT!! But they are one of the best forms of protein next to Soy and most other beans.

Nutritionally they are in the meat group because it is a protein but many nuts are not a complete protein...I think the only complete plant protein is soy.

When they talk about nutmeats...they are just talking about the inside a seed or nut...without the shell, like the kernel of a sunflower seed. But it isn't MEAT, as in flesh. It is the main part of the plant...the "meatiest", most significant.

You buy them in different sections of the store, nuts are usually with snacks, and meat is usually in the frozen or cold aisle.

Another thing...nuts don't come from animals! Well, not unless you cut them off the back end of a male. And that is slang and he isn't very happy about that, but it just ain't the same as nuts that grow on a tree or in the ground.

Meat is generally considered to be from an animal. Nuts are not although sometimes nuts care called nut meats....kinda confusing.

Yes, everytime I chase those cute little fuzzy baby butternuts around with a hammer and they scream in pain when I finally smash them open, all the blood and gore, and then I disembowel them and crunch down on their flesh, grinding it between my teeth MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

No they are not meat. They do not come from an animal. They grow out of the ground or on trees. They are a good source of protein.

Your the idiotic one because its proven by science and tha usda tha nuts are surely in the meat group.
Get your facts right.

No, they are protein but not meat

peanuts are classified with meat by american society
and fish is not called meat.

This is why it is best to say Animals and Not Animals.
Some people are not super smart.

If u think that way soynuts should be in the meat section because they have more protein and iron than beef or most other animals.

dont eat what suffers and screams, eat what grows from the ground.

Nuts are not meat.

But there is nutmeat, which is what you call the actual nut, the edible bit.

Hello friend, nuts are not meat ,just a good source of protien,i hope she dont think its like flesh from a COW or any other animal, that would be stupid, although,i dont like to insult any ones intellegence. This time i didnt have a choice ,ITS NOT MEAT OK GOT IT. FROM KATHY A

meat spefically pertains to the flesh of animals. however, it is also used do define nuts, insides of some squashes, and fruit. it can also be used to refer to a piece of the male anatomy.
nuts are a protein -same as the flesh of an animal.

wow, your friend is clueless. Nuts are referred to as nutmeats, but are so obviously not meat. They grow from the ground, and do not have a central nervous system. Is your friend 5 years old? You need older, more mature friends!

nuts are not flesh, they grow on trees and plants. they just have high protein, so they go with the meat in the food pyramid. peanut butter is how i get a lot of my protein as a vegetarian.

THe part of a nut that is edible is called meat, but not to be confused with meat that comes from animals.

Nuts are an excelent form of protein and if you are a vegetariean I encourage you to eat nuts for a good sourse of protein.
