Are Grape Nuts (the cereal) vegan?!
Are Grape Nuts (the cereal) vegan?
I don't have a box around here and can't find the ingredients list online so if anyone has a box lying around and could help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

That depends on the source of the vitamin D. If it's vitamin D2 then it's vegan, if it's vitamin D3 then it's from animal sources (usually from lanolin), so is not vegan.
Have you tried the manufacturer's website? The grains and the grapes would be vegan but I'm not sure what other items are used during the processing and packaging so can't be certain and this probably won't show on the website anyway. You may have to go into your vegan network and ask.
Ingredients: WHOLE GRAIN WHEAT FLOUR, WHEAT FLOUR, MALTED BARLEY FLOUR, SALT, DRIED YEAST. VITAMINS & MINERALS: REDUCED IRON, NIACIN, VITAMIN B6, ZINC OXIDE (SOURCE OF ZINC), VITAMIN A PALMITATE, THIAMIN MONONITRATE (VITAMIN B1), RIBOFLAVIN (VITAMIN B2), FOLIC ACID, VITAMIN B12, VITAMIN D.
**St N: There aren't any grapes in grapenuts.
I agree with Baggy for the most part. If the ingredients in grape nuts are grown with animal by products as fertilizers, then can it still be considered vegan? Or would the fertilizers have to be natural food and plant based composts or something?
