Atkins diet for vegetarians?!

Question:

Atkins diet for vegetarians?

Can anyone provide any info. regarding the Atkins diet for vegetarians? I know that the diet calls for high protein and low carbs, but how can I consume enough protein other than cheeses or eggs?

Answers:
Rose Elliot has written a cookbook for a low carb vegetarian diet with options for vegans. What happens is, that you eat a lot of cheese and eggs instead of the meat in the Atkins diet and if you have no soy allergy, a lot of tofu products. She also recommends a low carb protein drink once a day to supply more protein. After two weeks on a very low carb diet (around 20/day) you move on to phase two with about 40 - 60 carbs/day. It is quite a boring way to eat and I'm not sure if it is really healthy, but for some people it works. I think however a balanced high in fibre and low fat diet with a reduced calorie intake is a better and healthier long term solution.
You can google the net if you type in "low carb vegetarian".

Eat a vegetarian?

Legumes. Beans lentils and such most of their carb count is dietary fiber so it is not counted as calories for your Atkins diet.

Morningstar Farms and Bocca both make great meat alternatives. I personally like Bocca Italian Sausage with Dreamfields low carb pasta and a jar of pasta sauce. Read the labels on the pasta sauce. A lot of them contain large amounts of sugar - hence carbs.

I think there is a vegetarian option of the zone diet for vegetarians. The zone diet is very similar to Atkins.

ok you're joking i see
so i'll try to help

you can eat nuts and seeds, if you just eat one pound of walnuts that's like 300g of protein, enough protein for a week
you can eat one pound of walnut it's not much, plus you need to lose weight.

I imagine that that would be an incredibly limited diet! lol I dont know if there is such a thing.
