What do spounges eat and how?!

Question:

What do spounges eat and how?

Answers:
They feed on waterborne food particles, much like some whales.

Source(s):
Advanced open water diver

They absorb micro organisims that they breath in and out through their body.Sponges have several cell types:

Choanocytes (also known as "collar cells"), flagellated cells that function as the sponge's digestive system, are remarkably similar to the protistan choanoflagellates. The collars are composed of microvilli and are used to filter particles out of the water. The beating of the choanocytes’ flagella creates the sponge’s water current.

They set down on a juicy critter and suck the juices out of them. After dinner they squeeze the crap out of themselves and wipe up the mess..

i guess they eat alot of smaller spounges

what is a SPOUNGE anyway? why would you care if it eats or not?
