Is being vegetarian bad?!

Is being vegetarian bad?

i stopped eating meat 2 weeks ago (i eat my protein) and i always feel that everyone thinks that i am wrong or stupid for this choice...everyone always questions me as of i am stupid...am i stupid for my choice?

Personally, I'm a carnivore, but no - I don't think you're stupid.
Vegetarianism is an absolutely acceptable lifestyle, as long as you know why you're a veggie and you stick to it - (the smell of bacon cooking and "just this once" means you're not serious!!) - and as long as you research it thoroughly to get the vitamins and minerals that you need to thrive.

Good luck, stick to your principles, and if the people who question you on it and give you crud for it aren't willing to listen to your reasons, then they're not worth the breath you take to explain it!

Edit to Tomkat: There really is no correlation between true veganism and that link you put up - besides, the OP stated vegetarianism.

you shouldnt care bout what other people think.....if u dont want to eat meat than dont eat it.....i would probably be a vegeterian to if i didnt have an obsession whith burgers

Nope I think it's actually better, I've been a veggie for 4 years already and I dont plan on turning back anytime soon. I'm happy you chose to become a veggie it's gonna be hard at first but after about a month it's pretty easy try this website and look for a place where they sell it near you...

the reality is there are two very differing sides to the question.on the one hand you have the veg vegan crowd that will be the first to gulit you into not eating meat and try to sell you on the idea that out teeth are not made to eat meat.
than you have the meat eating crowd will tell you that you are stupid and this idea of veg vegan is hippie crystal gripping nonsense.and you should shut up and eat your burger.
i have been a chef for at least 10 years i have in one form or another done both, there are good points and bad on both sides. (although i love meat)i would be hard pressed to call you stupid, unless of course you did it to impress someone or are being pressured to do it by either society or your friends. being a vegetarian is not a fad it is a lifestyle.
and a difficult one at that.
i guess the best advice that i can give you is do not be swayed by anyone.do your homework on this educate yourself and then you will be able to make a more sound decission.insted of reading what the u.s or canadian govts.
have to say. our combined governments cant tell you how to cure the common cold but, thay can make a broad assumption on what it is that we should eat. especially since our bodies are so different and metablolize food differently.

No you are not stupid. I am sure the "everyone" u have met aren't vegetarians. If being a vegetarian you are stupid, that means we vegetarians are stupid. And we are not. So of course you aren't :)

yes, God put animals on the Earth for a reason (food)

its a matter of choice ... however to answer one post .. that god made animals for man to eat ... surely he also must have thought of some thing to eat the man by the same logic

First, don't let other people influence you. I stopped eating certain things because of the way that they were effecting my body. (IBS)
Then I found out about the reasons that most vegitarians stop eating meat is ethical. I am not in a position to argue ethical issues, so I avoid the conversation.
If a waiter or server doesn't like you asking if a product contains meat, then they are wrong, not you.

No it's not bad!! It's an excellent choice for your body (see vegan&proud's post) and for the planet: it takes 45,000 sq ft. of agricultural land to feed a person on a high meat diet, but only 10,000 sq.ft. for a vegetarian. Plus it's a more compassionate lifestyle. I myself have been a vegetarian for 17 years and I feel great and hardly ever get sick.

The key is to find and surround yourself with people who are supportive of your personal choices. And can give you support when you need it. Stick with it!

Also don't worry about protein. Meat-eaters always get so concerned about vegetarians and protein, but getting enough is not a problem for most people. (If you're doing serious and intensive weight training or athletic training, then it's a different story.)

absolutely not! becoming a vegetarian is an excellent choice because it benefits your health and the well-being of animals and the environment. don't listen to stupid ignorant people who criticize you.
