Is it safe to eat "Free Range" eggs or am I still at risk of supporting cruelty?
Answers:
The only really fail-safe way of not supporting "animal cruelty" is to have the animals in your back yard and process/gather/harvest the product yourself.
I guess it all depends on your interpretation of what "cruelty" entails. True 'free range' is supposed to be the nicest method of gathering, however there aren't any federal regulations (that I know of) that state what is required to market any food as a "free range" product. Research the company you want to buy from to see if they are as good as they say they are.
It depends on what u mean by cruelty. If you mean the hens squeezed in factory farms cruel, yes free range is much better. If you mean killing the hen is cruel, then I am not too sure. It depends on whether the free range farms kills the hens when they are old.
Free Range meaning what, they are not in farms? Cruelty can go ether way...
free range eggs should be safe to eat and are a vastly better egg than any battery eggs. organic free range are the best.
the eggs are not fertilised so there is no cruelty. hens lay eggs.
You can search the USDA guidelines for the term 'free range' with the link below.
Yes, you would still be (most likely) supporting animal cruelty since the guidelines state only that a small area has to be provided for the chickens and not that they will actually spend most of their time in that area.
For the most part it's a marketing scam!
While you're rooting around at the USDA also look up 'organic' for an eye opener
