Vegan Popcorn?

If i make popcorn on the stove and cook it in olive oil then put salt on it afterwords. would this be ok for a vegan to eat?

I do this all the time and it's just fine! Quite tasty in fact!!

As others have stated you do have to be a little more careful with heat control to guard against scorching the oil but with practice it works just fine. If you're going to use a regular pot (without a popcorn stirring paddle) use medium heat and make sure you don't stop shaking the pot until the popping begins to subside. At that point take it off the burner and let residual heat finish the pop.

If you do scorch the oil it's not too hard to clean. Use a little fresh oil to coat the bottom of the pot whilst it's still warm. Add some coarse salt (like kosher or sea salt) and when the pot is cool a nylon scrubber will remove the burned oil!

I would also suggest you try popping with extra virgin coconut oil!
The popcorn won't taste like coconut even though you will smell coconut as the oil heats (use medium high to high heat), it's less likely to scorch and is VERY healthy!! It got a bad rap because the original tests were done on highly processed partially hydrogenated coconut oil (trans-fat) instead of the natural oil!

You might also want to order FLAVACOL from a restaurant supply or from an e-tailer! Flavacol *is* vegan and yummy!TOPSIT is also vegan and (along with Flavacol) is what most movie theaters use on their popcorn. I web-order mine from Popcorn Supply Co. along with their premium white popcorn. All top rate vegan products!

perfectly fine, but I would recommend corn or canola oil instead, olive oil will burn faster. You can also get hot air poppers at wal mart or kmart for about 10 dollars. I recommend natural sea salt, as table salt has preservatives and anti caking agents

Why can't you use - "I can't believe its not butter!" ? on white popcorn.

As long as you don't use any animal fat, it's OK. And nobody pops it in lard or butter that I know of anyhow.

yeah...many vegans also use a dash of nutritional yeast for zest as well. Vegan is simple...no dairy of animal products. Olive oil is Okay

Yes! That would be fine. Peanut oil heats at a lower temp and is better for making popcorn - as long as you don't have a peanut allergy.

As far as canola oil, which someone recommended, I don't use genetically engineered food items. That's on my no-no list. Olive oil is SO much healthier.

well your own popcorn from plain popcorn? than of course, but the prepackaged kind you have to watch out for animal products.
