How long is a can of opened chick peas good for?!

Question:

How long is a can of opened chick peas good for?

I put them in a container in the fridge. I'm the only one who likes them so it takes me awhile to eat them all. I even mash them up and add them to my sandwiches but it's hard to go through a whole large can of them.

Answers:
Let your nose be your guide. My experience has been that canned chick peas (a.k.a garbanzos) will sour fairly quickly once opened - within a week, more or less. You will have no trouble determining whether to eat or pitch them out if you take a little sniff before consuming.

I would just freeze some and take out what you need when you need.

Assuming that they are not pickled, according to the website: http://www.canfightbac.org/cpcfse/en/coo...

it is possible to keep them 3-4 days (I am stretching their charts to include chick peas as a "leftover previously-cooked vegetable dish"). I personally have used a technique to stretch out the expected throw-away date by re-nuking something that is taking longer to eat than prudence would dictate. Not sure you'd want to do that in this case, though. If they are pickled (like the chick peas in the three-bean salad I purchase at the grocers) then the answer would probably be more like in the nature of months.
