Can you lose weight if you are a vegetarian?!
Can you lose weight if you are a vegetarian?
will you lose weight......
Answers:
That depends. If you end up eating the same amount of calories as you did when you included meat in your diet, then probably not. If you eat less calories, then yes. However, assuming you eat a balanced diet, you may have an easier time losing weight because you will be consuming more fiber, which will make you feel fuller, longer and keep your blood sugar stable (so you don't binge on junk).
I've known some people who lose a ton of weight when they go vegetarian, and some that didn't see a change in their weight. If you do decide to go vegetarian, which in my opinion is an economical, earth-friendly, compassionate and over all good decision, watch your fat intake. New vegetarians tend to consume a lot of dairy and eggs, which is high in fat, cholesterol, and calories. Veganism is most likely a better choice.
I recommend reading "Vegetarianism for Dummies" by Suzanne Havala. It has a lot of great nutrition info.

I've been a vegetarian for 12 years.
oh yeaH!!!
Yes.
yes, your body will enjoy losing the cholesterol. you should make sure you're still getting enough protein if you decide to be vegetarian though!
Ya, you will lose weight. Because it would decrease cholesterol level in your body. But you should eat some supplements like B12 to look good. Otherwise you wont have fresh skin.
Definetly! My 22 year old son is living proof. I'm almost starting to worry about him. veggie for about 8 months and can't keep his pants up (insert joke here).
Most certainly...I don't see how you can't, although you do have to realize there are many ideas to what a true vegetarian is...and that many of them are not healthful and will not make you loose weight, and may actually make you gain weight. I think most processed foods help you to gain weight...as well as most grains like wheat, rye, oats, corn and salted foods definitely contribute to water retention. I consider a vegetarian to be someone that eats only raw, unprocessed vegetables...not eggs, meats, dairy or even seeds and grains which come from plants. In biology...seeds and grains like wheat ARE NOT VEGETABLE parts of a plant...only roots (like carrots/beets), stems (celery), leaves (lettuce), are vegetables. The strict sense of the word vegetarian (as well as any chance of weight loss) starts falling apart as meats, dairy, eggs and grains/seeds are added to the diet. I believe in eating a good variety of foods and instead of trying to count calories, I aim to get 80% of my CALORIES from vegetables...which are so much more fullfilling and nutrient-dense than other foods... and proven fighters against the 3 major killers in the US too. This is difficult, however, because there really aren't that many macronutrients (carbs, protein, fat) in vegetables comparatively, so you will have to eat more to fill you up, which will leave you more full and nourished with a lot more vitamins and minerals than if you ate meat or dairy or even fruits. Dark green leafys have more absorbable calcium than milk too, which most people don't realize. Mom was right when she said "Eat you Veggies". The effects of a good vegetarian diet or even a semi-vegetarian diet like mine with 20% of my calories coming from eggs, meats, dairy, etc. cannot be understated. I have had less trouble with illness since I started paying attention to my diet and have lost weight and kept it off for years...it works...
Many cookies are vegetarian, some donuts, potato chips, french fries, several ice creams....
You lose weight depending on how you eat. Yes meat has a lot of bad stuff, but steak isn't the only junk food out there.
:)
Many vegetarians loose weight because they pay more attention to to their food lifestyle. I suppose that is the only benefit to having everyone spread the lies that if you stop eating meat, you are suddenly lacking to every nutrient known to mankind and you will slowly wither away and die.
Hahahaha.
No matter what you do, loosing weight starts with you. You can find a a tremendous amount of healthy, vegetarian recipes that will hopefully get you started.

yeah, unless you deep fry all of your vegetables
It depends on whether you eat a balaced diet, like in all cases.
But I'll tell you, you'll lose alot more weight with a balanced veg diet than a meat diet.
yes, most of the time. but it depends on how much meat you ate before and how drastic the change is in diet. also you still have to exercise the same amount. your diet wont lose your weight all by itself.
Yes. Vegetarian food is naturally lower in fat and void of any cholesterol. As long as your activity level is higher than the amount of energy (calories) you take in, then you will lose weight. Being vegetarian makes it a lot easier. Just look at a typical non-veg meal and you can see how much fat and calories are in it. Compare that to a typical veg meal and it is a huge difference.
