Have any of you been vegetarians since you were little?!
Have any of you been vegetarians since you were little?
I first felt that I did not want to eat meat when I was very small at age 5.
My family were big meat eaters. My family supported it and were very nice and would make veggie meals. What made me stop? I remember seeing all the veins in my chicken wing and seeing some veins in my arm. It was the cincher.
Then I ate meat again, I remember at age 10 because my teachers were concerned at school and they made a big to-do. I never liked it and could only eat it when it was unrecognizable. Never from a bone.
But I stopped again at 15 to 30.
Anyway, those are the nitty gritty details. I haven't had meat in 15 years. What about you?
I was kind of wondering if anyone has a similar experience.
Thanks and take care.

______________________________... parents raised me as a vegetarian from birth. I was a vegetarian my whole life and only touched meat once. I tried an itty bitty piece of steak a friend had cooked and it did taste good to me at the moment. The texture grossed me out, and a half hour later i barfed it all up. I suppose it was because my body did not recognize it and it was a foreign substance in my body.
Recently I made the decision to go vegan. IT HAS BEEN SOOOO HARD, but i have never cheated. Vegetarianism seemed so easy, but now that i have to check everything for dairy too i realize how much dairy i was consuming. No ranch dressing, no hot cheetos, no mac n cheese, no pizza, no ice cream....sigh. I miss ice cream.
When i went to my grandparents house they used to try to make me eat chicken. I would throw pieces of it to the cat of course, but for some reason, i threw it behind the fridge. Imagine if you can, the day my mom got a call from my nana saying she found rotten chicken behind the fridge. LOL. SOOOOO busted.
No I could not do without my grilled steak.
I used to love steak.ALL the time.
Now I can't stand it.
That's about all I can relate with this. Sorry.
I hated veggies and love them now.
The only difference is ever since I had my son, my taste changed.
All throughout my childhood i attempted to become a vegetarian, but always gave up after a while. I finally really became a vegetarian when I was fourteen, and have been ever since. (I'm nineteen now.)
When I was growing up, I was fed a strict meat and potato diet. I remember picking at my food, and never really being satisfied. Its like I didnt have the taste in me to eat meat at all. I craved apples and oranges and tomatoes, but like your experience, I had people insisting that I eat chicken or beef, saying that is what my body needed, though It wasnt what my body wanted. I am 22 now and I make my own food choices and decisions and It certainly doesnt involve meat. Maybe it has to do with people trying to force it upon a person, then again maybe it doesnt. I enjoyed sharing my experience and I hope it helped. Thanks and god bless!
a friend of mine was vegetarian by choice for a good 5 years when he was a child, then grew up and began a meat eating diet. just throwing that out there i guess!
Well, I'm 15 years old, almost 16, been vegan since 14, but I really wish I'd been raised like this from birth.
No I'm mostly veggie now although I eat a bit of fish. I have been veggie on and off since my late teens but I think my body needs a lot of protein. When I was a kid I was crazy about raw meat. I loved steak tartare and beef hardly cooked at all in a japanese hot pot and then dipped in raw egg. When my mom was grinding hamburger meat, I would grab a hunk and gulp it down. Also I could eat four or five pieces of Kentucky fried chicken and then chew up the bones. Yes it sounds disgusting now! I stopped eating meat for health and because of the way the animals are treated so cruelly, but not because I don't like it.
iam an vegetarian . i have never tasted any non-veg items from my childhood.
I haven't eaten meat for about 15 years, I was twelve when I became a veggie and now the idea of having a belly full of carcass is just revolting.
I was young, but not nearly that young. I stopped eating meat at 12 and I'm 22 now.
Yes; since birth.
Makes it easier if you've been reading labels and so on since you were a tot, I think. But, good grief, do those 'meat substitutes' ever gross me out, so to speak.
my parents raised me and brother and sister vegetarian
I've been vegetarian from birth- lucky me!lol
Wait, actually, my family was vegan first, then slipped backward into vegetarianism when I was around six. But I love it. I used to get teased occasionally, and I loved that part of my lifestyle, too! I like to argue about what I believe- so if anyone wants a debate, you got one right here! [email protected]
no i couldnt live without a good steak or a cheeseburger
I have been a vegetarian all my life so is my family for generations god knows how far they go up to my mom and dad, their parents, their parents, their parents....
there are a lot of people who are vegetarians by religion, sect, culture, ethnicity choice etc. Its only here that it seems so special
my experience is very similar to yours. i remember at about age 5 being served pasta with meat sauce and trying to avoid the meat because i didn't want to eat it. my parents and family members all eat meat (all though my sister recently gave up all meat but chicken), but for the most part they were supportive of me. my dad & sister do poke fun at me sometimes or question me about it but they are both immature so it doesn't bother me. i think i only ate bacon until about the age of 8 or so and then gave up meat entirely. i tried a tiny bit of steak one time a couple years ago and was completely disgusted with it and myself. i would never dream of eating meat again. ewww.
Well I am only 13 so I am still a child and I have been a vegan since I was like 8.
I have been veggie for 25yrs with the occasional slip for a sausage. Most parent and teacher have no experience with Vegetarianism and find it difficult to accept differences as they are conformist by nature. It is a protection for the passing on of their genes. I am sure that they meant well. I enjoy my way of life it enable me to keep healthy and well, both physical and mentally. I do yoga at three times a week as this helps my spiritual and physical well being. It also gives time for myself as it pushes people away with out seeming nasty.Going to the club once a week makes me get out and meet people as well.
My school Friends think I am weired but I don't mind I am not the one on anti depressants or have five kids, just moving through life at my own pace with a few regrets and many happy memories.
I have been a vegetarian for 30 years and recently switched to vegan due to a lactose intolerance and because I'm disgusted by eggs. My children, both in their late teens grew up without meat, although I never put any pressure on them. Eventually they tried meat and fish years ago, but rejected it. My mother on the other hand is a hard-core meat eater and can't survive without her daily portions of dead animal on her plate.
I wanted to be a vegetarian because of my Aunt Scollie a 7th day adventist.. however my
parents didn't allow it. I was forced to eat what was on my plate.. My Parents told me eat whatever is given to U.. when U grow up U can eat whatever the h e ll U want! I never
ever felt comfortable eating any meat while I was growing up.. but I managed to hide my discomfort well! Well I learned to make fake
meat dishes and they fooled many meat eaters
but not my brother though! Well at least these fake meat dishes saved me from having to eat meat sometimes. here's a simple one: take can pumpkin mix in oatmeal, wheat germ and light soya sauce.. you can make fake meatballs, fake meat patties, fake meat loaf too! Fake meats might gross some vegetarians out but probably not as bad as those real meat eaters eating their bloody meat!
i started when i was 12 and only 40 days till i have been vegetarian for a year
