Answers:
I love to eat oatmeal, I buy 2 kg a month, but have never eaten it raw, as it would be hard to digest I would imagine, I like the longer cooking (Large Flake) or steel cut/Irish/Scottish oats, they retain there bran and also have more nutrients than instant or quick.

You can speed up the process, by the night before measure out the oats, and then soaking them with boiling water the night before, next morning just heat them slowly on the stove, You will need to add about half the water nessessary, make sure to stir it and not boil it hard, that causes it to stick and then scorch.(a double boiler or setup is best)

Buy small amounts, if you have a store that sells bulk or organic foods, get a few cups a week or a monthly supply, it is the best thing for cholesterol and fills you up quickly, plus the energy will get you to lunch with out the need to snack.
