What is the difference between vitamin D2 and D3?!

Question:

What is the difference between vitamin D2 and D3?

Answers:
D-2 (ergocalciferol) is derived from yeast, while D-3 (cholecalciferol) is derived from lanolin (from sheep) or fish. D-2 and D-3 are both used to fortify milk and other dairy products. Some D-3 vitamin supplements are made with fish oil. D-3 can also be produced by plants and fungi, but this isn't as common as using lanolin or fish as a source.

Well, their sources are different. I know that d3 comes from sheeps wool, so it is neither vegetarian nor vegan, while D2 is both. Other than that, try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/vitamin_d-2... and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/vitamin_d3,... if you want the chemical differences.

I don't know about D2, but I do know D3 comes from pigs skin or brains. It probably can come from fish, but in milk, where it's most commonly found, it usually comes from pigs.
