1. Ovo-Lacto-Vegetarian: No flesh. Eats milk and eggs
2. Ovo-Vegetarian: No flesh and dairy products. Eats eggs
3. Lacto vegetarian: No flesh and eggs. Eats dairy products.
4. Vegan: No 'animal products' whatsoever.

So, is milk 'Non Vegetarian'? What do people generally mean when they say they are 'Vegetarians'?


Answers:
In the most basic terms, no.
The original form of vegetarian is meant to be "one who eats (only) vegetation."
What a lot of people think vegan to mean these days is actually what vegetarian is supposed to mean, and originally meant.
The truth is that a vegan eats a "vegetation only (vegetarian)" diet, but also excludes animals and animal products from their wardrobe and do not use products tested on animals.

We add prefixes like "ovo" and "lacto" to expand upon the original term to include products such as eggs and milk.

So, in literal terms, milk is not vegetarian- vegetation only.
In the terms of modern society, if a person says s/he is vegetarian, it is most probable s/he drinks milk.

Basically, vegetarians don't eat meat, but eat products like eggs and milk. Vegans don't eat meat, or even eggs and milk or anything that comes from an animal.

You've pretty much answered your own question. Some people identify themselves as certain types of vegetarians, and as you wrote, certain ones don't use milk products.

I plain old vegetarian (or ovo-lacto vegetarian) does drink milk and eat eggs, theres many different names for vegetarians these days.

however, most people who are vegetarian/vegan for the animals either are vegan or vegitarian none of these inbetween names. most vegans are repulsed by eggs or milk because of what they go through and vegetarians don't eat meat because of the slaughter. these names pretty much came from health nuts who want to stay fit so they follow one of these names to stay in shape, not because of the animals.

Vegetarian = someone who abstains from consuming flesh (meat). There are different types of vegetarians, including vegans, as you've described above.

As for vegans, all vegans are vegetarians because they (we) abstain from consuming flesh, but not all vegetarians are vegans, because vegans abstain from consuming *all* animals products.

Vegetarians:
- Some eat sea food (The animals were caught not enslaved). --Some eat milk, cheese & eggs.
---Some only eat free ranged eggs.

Vegan- Nothing from animals

Most people I've talked to use "vegetarian" to mean lacto-ovo vegetarian, and use the term "vegan" if they eat no animal products. I don't think I've met anybody who eats eggs and not milk, or vice versa.
I call myself vegetarian, and eat dairy products, eggs and honey.

well.. i am a vegetarian... let me make this simple.. we dont eat meat bcause it involves taking the life of an innocent animal, we dont eat eggs bcause it involves killing the chicken embroyo before it even forms, (though some vegans do consume eggs)which in a way is taking a life..

now.. to get milk from an animal u dont need to harm it or take its life... no, u do not deprive the calf of its mothers milk... because as u know the more the calf drinks milk, the more the mother cow produces... these dairy cows r even given boosters to improve the quality & quantity of milk...

so in this way milk & milk products r considered vegan..

p.s. i must add few vegans r so coz of health factors.. so its a personal choice as to what a vegan diet consistes of..
