I boil foods out of a rusty cast iron pot since I'm a vegan, is ths dangerous?
Since I don't eat any meat and assume my iron level might now be or will be low, I boil (wheat pasta, corn, cassava, potatoes, etc.) out of a rusty cast iron pot. Does anyone know if this might be dangerous?

Rust is the chemical produced when iron compounds corrode in the presence of oxygen and water. So rust is not iron. Probably not a real good thing to put in your system.
If you season your cast iron pot it will stop forming rust. To season your pans
Heat the oven to 250o - 300o
Coat the pan with lard or bacon grease. Don't use a liquid vegetable oil because it will leave a sticky surface and the pan will not be seasoned.
Put the pan in the oven. In 15 minutes, remove the pan & pour out any excess grease. Place the pan back in the oven and bake for 2 more hours.
Your cast iron pans should eventually turn very dark in color and this is a natural way to create non-stick cook ware.
Good sources of dietary iron include meat, fish, poultry, lentils, beans, leaf vegetables, tofu, chickpeas, black-eyed peas, potatoes with skin, bread made from completely wholemeal flour, molasses, teff, and farina.
It doesn't need to be rusty unless your goal is tetanus. Season it well with veg oil so it keeps that nice blackened look. The amount of iron you get off of it will be MORE than plenty. Also a good balance of veggies give you plenty of iron. Try moderate amounts of red wine too.
Um yeah, just a little. You need to season your pan this will prevent the rust. Clean all of the rust out of the pan, then heat the pan and wipe with shortening. Keep adding till the pan get shiny, this means that the pan has absorb all of the oil that it will be able to absorb. Then bake the pan in 350 for about 30 minutes. This will seal the pan. Now when you use it just wipe it out and season again except don't do the baking part. Just heat the pan to dry and wipe with oil. Good Luck...

That does not sound like a good idea. Use iron tablets. You also need to take an equal portion of magnesium as without that iron isn't absorbed anyway.

Naw, keep doing it, your doctor will love you when he sends you the bill for your next visit to the ER. Also you may be deficient in Vitamin B. So go find a bees nest and knock it around a little bit so you get stung. Just make sure you get stung in multiples of 6, so you get enough B6 and B12 in your diet. And also go find a magnesium fire starter and start chomping on that for a day or two, your magnesium levels could be low too.
Its called common sense. Go find yourself some. If dietary iron was the same as the stuff in mines, that set off metal detectors, how would anybody get through a metal detector at an airport?? Not only that but, how many cows do you see eating cast iron pans in order for you to get iron from their flesh? Are you high or just that inbred?
