If I'm trying to cut down on carbs to lose weight, can I eat beans?

Are beans going to do to my body what bread, noodles and rice do? Waht about sweat potatoes? I'm looking for something to fill me up, but i'm a vegetarian, so i can't rely on meat.

Potatoes and beans are high in carbs. So is corn. Beans are really high in fiber so if you need something filling I might run with the beans.

No, beans won't be the same as eating bread. They are very fibrous and highly recommended for losing weight. They'll keep you full and keep things moving along. They also contain a lot of protein.

Depends on the diet you are going with. I am not 100% on this, but I think you can have certain ones on South Beach. If you go with Atkins, it's a big no no.

ABSOLUTLY NOT!!!!!!!!!!! No beans, rice, potatoes, bread, sugar or yellow veggies. Oh try this...I'm not sure if you eat butter or cheese..but you take aliflower and boil the crap out of it till it is falling apart..drain and add cheese and butter with a little salt& pepper..So good when your on lo-carb diet..yum

you shouldnt try to cut carbs but instead fats, your body needs carbs to go throughout the day..

If u r doing the 10gm carbs routine for the first 2 weeks, then beans r out, so is sweet potato.But afterwards u can add in the good carbs. Including beans and also sweet potatoes to an extent, since its comparatively hig carb.
I suggest u eat some amount of good carbs, its important.
And go for south beach instead of Atkins diet,makes more sense, that way u can add whole grains to ur diet.
U can have fresh salads. And spinach, peas, pulses etc.

Beans are good, and so are sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes, as opposed to baking potatoes (and all the white potatoes) are nutritionally beneficial and the carbs are harder to break down than the carbs in white potatoes, which turn almost immediately to sugar.

I was a vegetarian (ova/lacto vegetarian) for Eight years, Sorry to say I'm not anymore. Anyway, Yes and Yes to beans, they are great all around. Morning Star Farm brand makes wonderful vegetarian products that taste like meat and give the protein and good carbs your body needs. Sweet Potatoes are good for you as well, just don't eat them like I like to dripping with butter and cinnamon/sugar.

Actually, when I try to lose weight I make it a point of making it a high-fiber diet, (which most definitely include beans). They're carbohydrates, but they work differently than those coming from bread, noodles and rice. They're filling, but they won't put weight on you like the other starches will.

There is one drawback.... mild cramps and a lot of flatulence. If you or anyone close to you doesn't mind that, then I see no problems, LOL

Green beans are low in carbs.

Depending on whether you are doing a prescribed diet such as atkins or south beach, the restrictions during the first phase are rather hard even on getting in good carbs like beans. But if you are just trying to cut down on carbs in general beans are still great for you. Your best bet is dried beans, black and red are my favorites packing lots of protein and fiber without the fat.
Also the carbs in the beans are better than those in refined flour

yes, you can eat beans. You will need them for the protein. But I would be careful on how many carbs you cut out of your diet, It can be dangerous. I was doing the Atkins a couple of years ago, and my Dr. and I both think it is related to the loss of my gallbladder. There are good carbs and bad carbs, do your research. Fruits, veggies, nuts, beans, whole grains are good carbs!
Just keep in mind....everything in moderation! And nothing beats good 'ol exercise!

Cutting carbs to lose weight is a lie. It's a trend diet that comes and goes. It never lasts.

What you need to do is cut out BAD carbs. White bread, pasta from refined white flour.

The potato makes for a healthy and satisfying meal. A potato with half a cup of veggies is a perfect meal.

Sweet potatoes are fantastic. Bake them as you would a regular potato. Rather than dousing them in butter and sour cream, go for vegan options which tend to be lower in fat and empty calories.

If you want to drop extra pounds then stay away from prepackaged and highly processed foods. Go back to the basics. Steamed veggies with some Miso Mayo topping.

A hearty Tempeh sandwhich will keep you from nibbling all day.

Be smart. Don't fall for the trends.

Vegetarian and low carb is not the best combination.
