How does one gradually ease into a vegan way of life?
Answers:
I have to confess here I told my mum that I'd start on a trial week and have been going non-stop for three (and a bit) years. (She has, bu the way, realised that it's no longer a trial!)
It's not as hard as may be assumed. I was a vegetarian first so if you're not already that would be a huge first step.
Making a clean break can be easier for some. Even if this isn't you, trying to distance yourself from explicit animal cruelty is one move towards veganism as you are less reliant upon animal products - so donate any wool, silk, leather (or fur) to a charity shop (PETA give out second hand fur coats to the poor if you need to dispose of one!), find a close friend or family member who might want some of your toiletries and then go from there!
Good luck!
Very hungrily. Do you realize how many animals are killed everyday in the harvesting of vegetables? You are not going to necessarily be healthier or more merciful to animals because of turning into a vegetable eater.
Eat less and less meat.
I did it all of a sudden one day and stopped eating meat. Now that I have been a vegan for more than a year, my stomach hurts if I eat too much meat. (I did it once, unfortuanately) .
Buy vegan alternatives and look-alikes. There is non-dairy cheese for example. These things often taste similar to the real thing and can be bought at most grocery stores.
When I was 12 I went vegetarian and I was not ready, nor did I understand the concept, of being a vegan. Later I became so interested in health that I continued to just cut out the dairy naturally, and I never liked eggs in the first place. Eventually I was about 95% vegan and just was like, well, may as well go the rest of the way...and I did!! Now I'm 10X healthier and I feel SO much better about myself and my body and I'm WAY more confident than I've ever been.
Vegan as you know is a complete lifestyle ..no animal tested products..no leather ..no products containing animals..it is how you live and keep your home..So I suggest first going on line to Peta and getting a list of compassionate companies..that means no Proctor and Gamble products for instance..and many products say not tested on animals..so changing your products takes time and your shoes..belts etc..but as you replace No leather"............Moo shoes in NYcity has a website for shoes and belts..also Alternative outfitters.............food is easy today..as whole foods supermarkets..and health stores..even standard supermarkets have many vegan foods..including vegan meats ..you just need to replace a little at a time ..you body will go through changes as the many chemicals you ingest with meat begin to leave ...the extra fat stored in your intestines comes out...but eat balanced and healthy ..and experiment with foods ..
well, i'm vegetarian and i want to become vegan.
what i plan to do is once i get into the swing of vegetariansim and i stay vegetarian for a while then i'll drop eggs, once i've gone through that i plan to drop dairy products, once that is done i plan to switch my leather ballet slippers into the canvas ones, and etc....
just sorda, drop one thing at a time until your 100% vegan!
