Vegans are a form of vegetarians. Not only do they not eat any animals they also do not eat anything produced by animals. No milk, eggs, cheese, ice cream, yogurt or anything like that. They also do not use lard for cooking and some even do not wear or use products make from animals, such as wool, leather, furs and things like that.

Vegan is a term normally used in describing a way of eating (like vegatarian). Vegan means using no foods that come from animals. No meat, eggs, milk, cheese, yogurt, etc. Vegans eat mostly all foods that come from plants. In vegan recipes alternative products like soymilk (for milk) are substituded for animal-derived products.

It also however extends to clothing, cosmetics and many every day items such as candles.

In contrast, vegetarians abstain from produce from the slaughter of an animal - so no meat but eggs and milk are fine. This normally also extends to lifestyle - i.e. no leather but wool is fine.
