Is shrimp actually meat?!

Question:

Is shrimp actually meat?

I did a resolution on becoming a vegetarian and my mom said shrimp is not meat, so I ate eat. I feel guilty though.

Answers:
Yeah.....shrimp is meat. Meat is basically flesh, and the part of shimp that we eat is the shrimp's flesh. So therefore the shrimp is meat.

Vegetarians by defenition dont eat any flesh. Whether it be beef, chicken, pork, fish, seafood, or any other animal they dont eat it. Some vegetarians called pescarians eat fish, but most people believe that pescarians are not a valid form of vegetarianism.

If you want more info on vegetariaism and its forms try www.veggie123.com It has tons of great info on vegetarian nutrition also...

hope this helped!

Yes it is. What else would it be?

Shrimp are animals and feel pain. Dolphins and other sea mammals get caught in the nets used to catch shrimp. This is why I don't eat it.

I always wondered why some vegetarians don't consider sea food as meat...

Oh, and congrats on becoming a vegetarian, we need more people like you :)

It's fish. If you consider fish meat, it's meat...it DOES qualify in the "it has a face" category.

Shrimp are not meat. They're a seafood - alia's fish.....

No offense but your mom is stupid. Shrimp is a fish therefore and animal therefore meat. Or your mom could of said it wasn't meat because she's worried you're not getting enough protein.

Of course it's meat. It has eyes... and it used to be alive crawling on the sea floor with it's little antennas wiggling around. geez. I love shrimp ... although I think of them as the "cockroaches of the sea". Bon Apetite!!!

Seafood (FISH).

it surely aint a vegetable.

They are considered shellfish.

It depends on what you mean by "meat". Yes, it is the flesh of a living animal. No, it is not beef, pork, or poultry.

i could say, of course it's meat. but let's try something else. if not meat, what kind of vegatable is a shrimp?

Shrimp is not on a vegetarian diet. The standard vegetarian diet is based upon the bible's old testament book of Deuteronomy, chapter 14. In it, the foods that are forbidden include the fish that do not have scales or fins which is what shrimp, crab, and lobster are.

Technically shrimp is not called meat, it is a crustacean.

I am not a religious person but I grew up in a community of religious, vegetarian doctors.

If it didn't grow from the ground, don't eat it.
And if it made you feel guilty, that should answer your question.

You should feel guilty, dolphin-killer!

yes its sea food, and if you are veg try not to get coaxed next time ok

In the sense that you are killing another creature to eat it-yes it is.
If your mom is speaking nutrition wise-did she know it's high in cholesterol?
Sounds like your reasons are ethical, so it's the same to you.

Hey Rei, don't call ANYONE'S mom stupid! You said "no offense" but it was very offensive. What if someone called your mom stupid? What if they said "no offense" - would it still be offensive? Of course it would.

For anything, if you're confused whether or not it's meat, ask yourself this... is it animal, vegetable, or mineral? Shrimp are fish, and fish are in the animal kingdom, and anything in the animal kingdom is meat, so yes, shrimp is meat.

Yes, any animal is meat.

Flora is the collective term for plant life and Fauna is the collective term for all animal life.

or like Dolores said, things in this world fall into the category of animal vegetable or mineral.

Shrimps are living creatures or animals. Animals are flesh. Flesh is meat.

Don't eat the shrimp dude.
