No marshmallows? Only some yogurts? What else?
OMG! So I've been ovo-lacto veg for going on two years now. JUST noticed today that my favorite yogurt contains gelatin. THEN I find out that MARSHMALLOWS do to?!?! WTF!
I mean, I read labels religiously! But there's some things you just don't expect to find animal products in! HELP! What else is off limits, when you wouldn't expect it to be?
PS... honestly... the whole "gelatin made of hooves, etc" thing I THOUGHT was old info. I had no idea they still made it that way! YUK! Even if I wasn't vegetarian I wouldn't wanna eat that! GROSS!

There is a lovely book called Animal Ingredients A - Z. There's a lot more than gelatin that comes from animals. Most women don't know "the pill" is refined horse urine.
There are vegetarian marshmallows. Look for the hand made ones.
MOST gummy candy has geletin. Some doesn't. I found a great Aussie licorice at Cost Plus that is vegan.
The worst one for me was Cetyl Alcohol. Cetyl = cetacea. Whales and dolphins. It was in so much of my personal care. I had to do a complete overhaul.

Yes, gross !! In Australia, luckily we have a good choice of vegan yogurts now available with lots of yummy flavours. We can get a limited but yummy lollies, jelly beans, but have yet to find marshmallows, but have seen in vegan online shops in U.K. and would love to try. We have a product called gelozone which replaces gelatin,(made from plants) so I can make jellies and put in deserts, It can take ages doing the shopping when I want to try something new, as being vegan I have to check every ingredient and now they use numbers to confuse us on some products!! Egg, dairy, animal free, but in the long run its worth it, but luckily I love cooking, otherwise I would miss out on lots of things that are not available main stream.
There are vegan versions of marshmallows, they don't contain gelitan. Check them out!
Yeah, there's gelatin in the frosting of some pop-tarts and twinkies have "animal and/or vegetable shortening". You just really have to read everything twice almost... Little Debbie's version of twinkies don't have animal fat...whoo hoo, we can still kill ourselves with junk food...
