Who thinks that vegetarians/vegans get discriminated for what they are doing?!

Question:

Who thinks that vegetarians/vegans get discriminated for what they are doing?

Seriously, it's getting me sick and tired. Meat eaters treat us like freaks from other planets. They act as if we have nothing better to do. A friend of mine is a vegetarian and the amount of hatred she gets for being one is.. I can say that if i would tell people i was one they would all look at me as if i had killed my best friend with a fork. I am a vegetarian for many reasons, i am probably the only one in my whole family and the only one counting up my relatives. I have a lot of respect for meat eaters, as long as they don't make fun of who i am. I have been one for four years and i haven't told many people about it. If i would i would get many questions of people asking me if i'm alright and how i get my proteins. My reasons for being one is because i want to save the planet this way, i don't like meat and i find it much healthier to eat vegetables anyway, i love animals by the way. But i just want to give a wake up call to meat eaters and show them we're human too!

Oh most definitely!
To the girl who said we "whine and moan" erm riiiiiiiiiight when was the last time a vegetarian/vegan came up to YOU personally and complained there was no vegetarian/vegan food on menus. Just because you eat meat doesn't mean I shouldn't have choices.
I always get "How could you not eat meat it's soooooo good" or (my all time favorite, even though it isn't a question) "I could never go without eating meat it tastes too good" well that's their opinion and I respect it to a certain point but when they're shoving THEIR beliefs in my face about how I'm unhealthy blah blah blah, it bothers me. I do have to say though that PETA are Animal extremists. I'm not saying everyone that is a member of PETA is an extremist but those are mostly the people that you'll see on the streets (or in the train station like my dad saw) shoving flyers in our faces saying how we should and shouldn't treat animals.

Four year vegetarian

people mock what they don't understand

I do

ive never rea;;y experienced this much hatred.... but i also live in a SDA/Christian community adn we have a vegetarian/vegan store right here in the community, so its not uncommon here... but i do find it frustrating that it is a meat lovers world.....

Meat eaters feel like they are being judged by vegetarians for eating meat. That's why they are so rude about it. It makes them feel uncomfortable. Or they just feel guilty about it. It's stupid, yes, but I think that's the real reason why they act that way. It's like being around people who speak a foreign language and feeling like they are talking about you.

It's not the fact that people are vegetarian. It's what comes out of their mouths. They get invited to dinner and then whine that there's nothing on them menu for them and sulk. Or constantly saying meat is gross, or save the animals, and going into detail about how a hog is slaughtered. When they start espousing views, putting meat-eaters down, and trying to convert them, that's annoying.

I eat veggie about 80% of the time. But I don't tell everyone within hearing range or complain that I'd rather not eat meat. Hard-core veggies do that. I choose what I want to eat and it's nobody else's business.

I don't think anybody really cares much about vegetarians.

I mean, the fact that your vegetarian isn't that big of a deal.

I resent the fact that vegetarians are more outspoken about me eating meat vs. the fact that I don't say one word about them not eating meat

You know I am a meat eater and I never look down on people that only eat veggies. I love veggies and I love meat. My only question is where do you get iron in your diets? I've tried going on an all veggie diet and I felt weak. Oh yes I took vitamins as well.

Also people that look down on you just may be jealous on how healthy you look. So sometimes you just have to consider the source of ignorance. People need to worry more about themselves and how they live their own lives. So hold your head up high and be proud of who you are and try, (I stress) try to ignore them they are ignorant.

I think meat eaters are jealous. I do eat meat but not as much as before, and if I could, I want to be a vegetarian for life. Look at all the diseases that man created to consume more meat? mad cow, bird flu, and now pigs are in danger. Do not get frustrated now, in 10 years, there will be more vegetarians than meat eaters. Everyone in Asia and Europe are crazy about organic vegetables all of sudden because they learned that Meats are filled with antibiotics and growth hormones! Do not care about what others say or think of you. It is your body and you are taking good care of it. That's what's important.

WELL SAID MY SISTA WELL SAID!!!!!!!!

have a nice and meat free day!!!!!!

face it, everyone's always going to criticize people who are different from them. everyone does it. i am not a vegetarian nor do i agree with what most of you say, but I am not going to slaughter a cow and put it on your doorstep. you are discriminating us for what we believe now.

I have the same problem with most of my friends. I tell them I don't eat meat, and they start complaining about it!!! They tell me vegetarians are stupid treehuggers and try to convince me to eat meat! Even my best friend laughs at me when I don't eat meat!! She also laughs when I say I can't do something after school b/c I have to go to E.A.C meeting! (Environmental Action Counsil) It is really annoying. My other friend is a vegetarian, and they laugh at her too. Most people question me, and when they ask why, I just say "I eat what I want to eat, and you eat what you want to eat, so drop it!" Some of my friends are nice about it, though, and are very supportive. If they are having a bday party or something they make sure there is a cheese pizza for me. And when they do eat meat around me, they usually tend to hide it a little so I don't have to see it. So some people are cool about it while others are just a pain in the neck!

i have experienced this too many times to count! even my friends have joked that they would put meat in my food without my knowing. it's horrible and definitely not funny but unfortunately, we aren't going to change other people's behavior. just ignore them, i know this sounds cliche, but if they don't get a rise out of you they'll probably stop. and if they don't just tell them it's none of their ****ing business what you eat and what you don't =).

The problem is the extreme vegans/vegetarians, groups like PETA. Its like any differences between human beings. If you make a show of it or draw attention to it, then there are consequences. Groups like PETA, make it difficult for people that just want to enjoy food the way they like it. You could say the same thing for extreme religious groups, or political groups.

I am sick of it too. I HATE being discriminated. And those who think they're not discriminating still are! "What do you eat? Man, I couldn't make aday without a nice, yummy, juicy steak." The time has come for it to end. We need to live in families of vegans. Seriously.

Have a nice day yourself.
