Hi there! Not sure what the arabic alternative is, but it can also be known as soy cheese (not to be confused with fake cheese made from soy milk, which is not tofu) and as bean curd. There are two main forms of tofu- silken tofu (which looks like a white jelly) and firm tofu (which is an off-white and meaty looking). Silken tofu is usually used for making creamy sauces and puddings, whereas firm tofu is used as a meat replacer.
The firm tofu usually comes in a clear airtight package with water sealed into it to keep it moist and is found in the refridgerator section. Silken tofu usually comes in cartons and is more of a specialist product which does not need to be kept in the fridge.
If you have trouble making it, look online for a recipe. You can make tofu from buying soya beans, soaking them, boiling them, then squeezing the liquid out and mixing with a coagulant (make sure you follow the instructions of any recipe, homemade tofu can be hard to get right!).

im arabic, and i dont think that there is a word for tofu
i guess tofu has no arabic translation. sometimes, they call it, siy bean curd. Check in the refrigerated isle in the grocery next to the vegetable section... most brands are asian in label. There soft white blocks of soy bean curds...
Where do you live? Most Middle Eastern supermarkets carry tofu, either in the refrigerated vegetable aisle or the dairy asle.
i dont speak Arabic unfortunately, but at least i know 3 terms for tofu, tofu itself, tahu, and soy bean curd
good luck!
it's something not named because it's not known as food in Arab countries.
if it's there, you ll find it only in chinese food stores.
