Does Tofu act as a natural laxative, or the other way around?
Just wondering...
Answers:
Neither. And tofu is not a vegetable. Its a compressed block of soybeans.
tofu is a vegetable ...I do not think it is a laxative
wats tofu? is it the chinese 豆腐?
It is just soy bean curd mostly protein, it doesn't act as a laxative. It may give you a bit of gas as the protein is hard for you body to break down, but it is certainly not a laxative.
The other way around? Do you mean do laxitives act like tofu, or asking if you can substitute laxatives place of tofu and get the same physiological response as if you were eating tofu?
No, tofu does not act as a laxitive, it is a vegetable. It is very healthy and tasty to eat as well, so dont be nervous bringing it to a party! I brought a dish of it one time and everybody loved it because I added a bit of sugar and cinnamon!
tofu not a lax
It contains fiber since it is made from the soybean, but usually does not cause cramping and diarreah. If you are having the sensation that you have taken a laxative just after eating tofu, perhaps you have an allergy to soy. Some people do.
No, tofu is bean curd and is not a vegetable, nor does it contain any significant fiber (it's mostly protein and fat). IMO, I have not seen either laxative or constipatory effects. But since it's commonly eaten with fresh vegetables, those may have a laxative effect.
