Okay here's my question, please answer it!?!
Okay here's my question, please answer it!?
who here is a vegetarian because they think meat is dead, it's about eating (once) living creatures etc. and who is a vegetarian because they think it's healthier? or do you have any other reasons?
Answers:
for me its about the cruelty to animals.
I live as an arable land owner in a farming community and, no matter how bad you think the treatment is, i can safely say its worse than anything you can think of.
Veggie for 27 years.
The first 3 answers are absolutely typical of meateaters.
The plants feel pain thing is farsical.
Have any of them ever seen an animal or plant ? Have they ever taken the time to go and see a few cows , sheep, chickens etc ?They all have characters, feeling, thought processes, pain, affection....plants have none of these things because they have no nervous system or thought processing centre.
Saying plants are the same as animals is just a way of burying your head in the sand to the cruelty you sponsor by trying to distract from the real discussion.
And the "it was meant to be eaten because it tastes so good".....not even worth answering that totally illogical arguement
oh dear ( to the anwser below )...Are some people really saying they cannot see the difference between plants and animals ?
i suspect that answer is just as i describe above, a meateater way of avoiding the issue.
Can you please re-read your answer. To "feel" something needs a nervous system. you say plants don't have one, and yet they feel....how ? Please describe the physical method as how a plant without a nervous system can feel. You then use the word "react" as if its the same thing. Reaction is the result of a physical stimulus. A rock "reacts" when i roll it over, it moves, the bottom gets damp and the top gets dry. By your statement, i guess your also saying a rock "feels" pain, are you ?
As far as I think, just like animals, plants are living creatures as well. when you water it, it soaks it up and when you break it to cook it dies. So I think to be a vegan is a waste of time.
if we weren't meant to eat meat then why does it taste so good
Every food used to be alive , both vegetables and meats, and we are just fooling ourselves if we say that plants are not as averse to being eaten.
What I do is give thanks for the food I am about to eat.
Maybe there will be a time when we will simply use chemicals eg tablets, fluids etc.
I would love to be a vegetarian because of health reasons, but scientific proof abounds that some fish and a little meat also is healthy.
For Michael H
To say that plant do not feel anything is simply ''farsical''.
The fact that they do not have a nervous system like our is true, but plants do react in many cases. Their internal and external communication system is a chemical one. The fact that we don't perceive it does not mean that does not exist.
It as to say that fishes since do not scream do not feel pain !!!!
Plants are live beings an thei die in boiling water alive, non like animal that beforehand are killed !!
Try to think with your head !!!
I'm a Vegetarian because that is what I'm born to be. Get it?
health
i am a vegan because of personal choice i know its not the most healthy.....it has been so long and now it is more of a way of life....the thought of killing when not needed is cruel...
I'm a vegetarian because the idea that meat is a piece of an animal's body is enough to make me throw up.

? Abby ?
Absolutely.. I do not believe our bodies THRIVE on eating a diet with flesh. We can live on meat but with time our health breaks down on this diet. I think 99.9% of all our health problems comes from eating that way.

If a person would not eat their own pet, why would think it's OK to eat another animal?
Personally I do it because I think it's wrong to eat animals. Many people do it for health reasons which is also a factor.
I am for many reasons. But the biggest reason is because the idea of ingesting a corpse makes me nauseous.
Sorry, but I love animals.
I just couldn't imagine eating any animal. And considering the fact that pigs are slaughtered when they are 4 months old, chickens 1.5 months old, and cows 6 months old (veal cows are slaughtered when they are 2-3 months old!), I consider it practically eating baby.
Also, veganism is much much much healthier. Vegetarianism, too. An average vegan's cholesterol is 50 lower that an omnivore's. An average vegetarian's cholesterol is 35 lower.
Hope that helps.
Proud vegan since I was 11!
Note to Rachel S:
I also believe that killing animals is no worse than killing plants. All life has value and it sucks that we have to kill anything in order to survive.
The reason I recently became vegan (almost overnight btw, I wasn't even vegetarian) is because I was made aware of the intense animal cruelty, mistreatment, and suffering that goes on in the farming industry. This is why, to some people, being vegan is not a waste of time.
Sorry this is only indirectly answering the question, but I just wanted to offer another perspective on that point :)
cant justify killing a living creature to eat when I can live just as well without doing so.
