Imitation Crab is made with Pollack ~ which is then flavoured to taste Crabby. It should say on the label, unless you live in some unregulated country, but then i would say Imitation Crab wouldn't be available. While it is true that Imitation Crab is not nearly as good as the real thing, for people like me who are allergic to Crab; its a good substitute. I have this thing about bloating up and going into anaphalaxis... so for me its Kay-rab all the way.
i have never heard of imitation crab made out of wheat.... im pretty sure that all of it is whitefish.
wheat may be a filler, but whitefish or codfish or some other specific is the main ingredient.
its just fish flavored like crab
Typical imitation crabmeat is made of fish, so no, it wouldn't be vegetarian. However, I've heard that veggie versions exist of fish, crab & shrimp. I haven't seen them in any of the grocery stores I have access to, so I couldn't tell you much about them. If the ingredient list does not list any fish or meat, or animal derivative (fat, etc), then it's probably okay. If it doesn't have fish in it, I'd assume it's made specifically FOR vegetarians and should say so on the package somewhere. Good luck.
It's made of fish, just not of crab.
NO.
