What do you think about being a vegan?
No one is vegan and it pisses me off. There are no meals at resturants that are vegan and i have to shop at ******* health stores to buy bread.
Answers:
There are plenty of vegans out there. Check out meetups.com and see, if there's a vegan group in your area that meets for dinners. Most urban areas will have a place or two that caters to vegans. Atlanta(my area) even has a couple of places that cater to raw foodist vegans. You just have to look hard for them. I went to a vegetarian soul food restaurant one time just to see what it was all about, and it turned out to be a vegan muslim restaurant. It was some of the best food I've ever eaten! Ask the people at the hippie food stores where they like to eat, and one of them is bound to be vegan. You should pick-up the literature at the front of the store, as well. They usually have a directory or two of places to eat and shop that are appropriate for vegetarians, vegans, and health conscious individuals.
Also, most places have something that you can make a meal of. Example:
At Waffle House you can have grits with salt and pepper and no butter....steamed hashbrowns(reconstituted dehydrated potatoes) cooked on a clean part of the grill made with your choice of jalepenos, onions, or tomatoes....a crappy salad made with crappy iceberg lettuce....any of their drinks except for milk and hot chocolate. Mind you, it's not the healthy choice. It's not the greatest selection, but there is some selection, if you're on the road late at night, and you want something hot in your belly.
If none of this works, then you just need to convert people or move....MuahaHahahaaa!!!!
Vegan is un-natural. I really dont need to say anything else.
I'm neither vegetarian or vegan, but it'd probably be easier to eat vegetarian than vegan cause then you can find things to eat easier. Besides being vegetarian and eating dairy doesn't kill animals if that's what you care about.
I was a vegetarian for a year. I'm not a big meat eater anyway so it wasn't hard. I ate dairy though like ice cream and cheese. I imagine being a vegan is very hard. I know just being a vegetarian at the time, it was hard to find meals out to eat.
it's just second nature to me now.
To each his own My girl Friend is vegetarian I have Friends who are vegans and yes it is hard for them to find places to shop. Most of the ones i know shop in heath food stores grow their own food and grind their own flour to bake bread There are a few vegetarian restaurants in the area I work in (Madison WI) so every once in a while I bring my girl back something from them
same here, solution is you have to pack your own lucnch, dinner, mid dinner, breakfest and all other meals
that is the price we pay to live long,.
much much longer then our meateating counter part brother and sisters.
i love being vegan, i feel great. but it makes going out to eat with my family a *****. in fact, it makes any meal eaten with them difficult. but whatever. i'll suffer though it. i dont know what on earth im going to eat once i go to college though. im thinkin they wont have many options. maybe i'll just become anorexic. ;)
I like being vegan because I feel that I am making a difference. Hoever, it REALLY sucks to go out to eat as a vegan. My favorite place to go out to eat when I was a vegetarian is now just horrible to go to. They used to serve a vegan dish, but then they got rid of it. Then they told me that their refried beans were vegan, but the next time I went they told me that they had cheese COOKED INTO THE RECIPE. So I ate chips for dinner.
However, I think veganism is easier for those who run their own households. Once I move out and get through college, then I never have to eat out again, right? And plenty of people are vegan, they just don't often come into contact with other vegans, I guess. I've met other vegans, but didn't know that they were veg for quite awhile. And I love health food stores!
I haven't been vegan long, I was a vegetarian then I converted in the New Year!!!
Being a vegan rocks!! Ok, we have limited choices compared to vegetarians but being a Newby I was shocked at the amount of things we can eat !!! My local supermarket stocks Terrance Stamp's food including the breads which are vegan. The pitta breads are vegan and so are the crumpets. Porridge or museli (if it's vegan, some stupid manufacturers put milk powder in it, why?) made with water is yummy!
I have just bought a really smashing cook book By Wendy Turner-(Webster) called the absolutely animal free cook book, it is very exciting!!! The upside of not being able to eat out much is that we are healthier because of it. We can eat certain types of dark chocolate if it is vegan friendly check out www.greenandblacks.com. all of their cocoa is fairtrade and all of their dark chocolate is Vegan (some chocolatiers add a little milk to dark chocolate -yuk!!) - I love the Maya Gold Bars. My local supermarket's own brand waifer thin mints are vegan and so are their value tortilla chips. Their cheap value own brand Xmas pudding is also vegan!!
If I ever won or inherited a large sum of money it would be my dream to open a vegan restaurant !!! I'd invite you as guest of honor to officially open the place!!!
I think being vegan is totally insane.
Open your own damn resturant.
