Soy Milk v.s. Cows Milk, what are your thoughts?!

Question:

Soy Milk v.s. Cows Milk, what are your thoughts?

Answers:
I think drinking cow's milk is an odd thing to do if you're not a calf.

i have always drank cows milk but teh vinilla soy milk is awesome

Soy milk is good for you & has a stronger flavor. It helps prevent some forms of cancer.
Get a good electric soy milk maker to make it.

I drink Cow milk, but also have soya milk sometimes. Especially sweetened soya milk on my cereal. It's really nice and can be very good for you too. It's particularly good for women of a certain age too!

As an avid milk drinker and chef the taste i what it is all about. As I would not replace a prime juicy burger with a soy burger I would not replace cow's milk. For lactose intolerant is is a great alternative but for the taste margarine does not replace quality butter... any great chef will tell you that if you need to substitute then you are better off giving it up! eat the one good tasting thing and give up the 3 fakes, it will satisfy your craving more and equal out in calories, fat, etc...

I often use soy milk b/c I'm lactose intolerant. Is is great for you, but lacks the natural calcium of cow's milk. Try goat's milk if it's a digestion issue.

Both are good for your health but soy milk's definitely a better choice cos its good for your skin and lower in calories!

It's all in preference and diet.

For someone who is lactose intolerant (or vegan/vegetarian), soy milk is a very good alternative to get calcium and other nutrients (some that even cow's milk doesn't have). Cow's milk is more than likely a better way to get natural calcium and vitamin D into your diet, but this doesn't make soy milk a "lesser" alternative.

Personally, I like both. And soy milk comes in vanilla! Yum!

Soybeans do not naturally contain much calcium, but do contain phytates, a type of antinutrient that interferes with calcium absorption"p138 Phytates bind minersls likei ron, zinc, calcium and magnesium leading to "poor growth, anemia, immune system incompetence and other health woes."p214 "Tofu, soymilk, and all the modern soyfoods such as SPI (soy protein isolate) and TVP (textured vegetable protein) carry phytates intact, putting formula-fed infants, vegetarians and other high consumers of soybeans at risk for mineral deficiencies

well i used to like cow milk but since im vegan thats out of the question. i have tried soy milk on several different occasions and i still just cant drink a glass of it with out it taking about an hour. the taste just doesnt do it for me. im sure it would be good in cooking, but personally, i dont like it. i have yet to try rice or almond milk, but once i give them a go ill tell you my opinion.

Cows Milk..full of calcium and has the best taste.

SOY milk all the way. Cows milk has added hormones and is full of PUss. Soy milk has the same amount of calicum, fewer calories, way less fat, no Cholestrol, No animal cruelty, And has a natural taste that makes you feel healthy and energized, compared to Cows milk which slows you down. YUCK.
Try soy milk in your cereal instead of Cows milk, you wont know the difference.

Cows milk is for baby cows. It's all sugar too! (read the label) and refined. Most Americans don't even buy organic milk so they are getting all those nice hormones, antibitoics and pesticides everytime they drink "regular milk.

There is more calcium in a cup of broccoli then in a glass of milk. Many grain cereals are also enriched with it and many OJ brands are too.

soy milk won the battle.that's why the dairy industry bought them out.

Since I cannot tolerate Soy or Cows milk I suggest one of the following:
Almond milk is the number one nut milk, although people who make their own often use walnuts, hazelnuts, or cashews, along with almonds. Potato milk is the newest addition to the (non)dairy case, and it is available in both liquid and powder form, although distribution is still limited. Combination beverages often contain oats, barley, soybeans, and brown rice.

Glad you asked this question, since it was a surprise that in the first lot of answers, not one mentioned any potential dangers of soy milk. That was a surprise.

I will post a link below, which is the first thing that comes up on a Google search for "soy milk dangers."

I'm not a fanatic about this or anything. Actually, I love the taste of soy milk. I drank it for quite a while both as a beverage, and with powdered supplements.

When I had a health breakdown, I became very careful about what I put in my body. I'm not saying soy milk was responsible. But I use almond milk instead now.

As for cow milk, as people say, there is something to be said for organic. Going further, some claim your best health benefits come from culturing it with keifer. Then it really becomes a different beverage. I've tried it, but don't continue to do it.

When in doubt, moderation is always a good rule of thumb. Another point worth making is, go with the taste that makes you happy...there are certainly health benefits to happiness!

For better or worse, taste and happiness are modified for me by information I read. Good to keep in the back of your mind that widely held opinions can change, like the butter/margarine flip flop.

I never thought I'd like soy milk... however... some brands of it are REALLY tasty! I still don't drink it plain, however I don't really drink cows milk plain either. I actually PREFER soy lattes over regular ones. We typically use more soy milk than regular milk, though I continue to purchase both.

When buying cows milk, I only buy milk that does not have antibiotics and hormones in it. I still hate supporting the industry, but at least if they aren't using those items, the cows are probably better off than most dairy cows.

Soy milk is tricky. Some brands are just plain nasty. My personal favorites are Organic Valley and the Costco brand (Kirkland). In fact, I DID drink the Kirkland stuff plain once and it tastes almost exactly like regular milk! I was shocked (to be honest I was VERY skeptical of it, being a "generic" brand). I find Silk to be quite bland and watery tasting. So the secret of soy milk is to buy SMALL containers of it until you find a brand you like. :) Once you find a brand, stick with it unless you like being disappointed.

I like organic vanilla low fat soy milk

When you get used to Soya milk....

Cow's milk (though i love em) is like drinking slime.

Even the Hari Krishna's should realise that Krishna would be a vegan today and they should stop exploiting cows too.

Vanilla soy is good in cereal. For drinking or cooking I like organic milk.

Soy doesn't prevent cancer, it can cause it.

"Soy contains several naturally occurring compounds that are toxic to humans and animals. The soy industry frequently refers to these toxins as anti-nutrients, which implies that they somehow act to prevent the body getting the complete nutrition it needs from a food. The soy toxins (such as phytic acid) can certainly act in this manner, but they also have the ability to target specific organs, cells and enzyme pathways and their effects can be devastating.

The soy toxins that scientists have the most concerns about are protease inhibitors, phytic acid, soy lectins (or haemagglutins), nitrosamines, manganese concentrations and the mysterious soyatoxin. Nitrosamines are not naturally occurring in soybeans but form during the processing of products such as isolated soy protein (ISP).

High levels of phytic acid in soy reduce assimilation of calcium, magnesium, copper, iron and zinc. Phytic acid in soy is not neutralized by ordinary preparation methods such as soaking, sprouting and long, slow cooking. High phytate diets have caused growth problems in children.

Trypsin inhibitors in soy interfere with protein digestion and may cause pancreatic orders. In test animals soy containing trypsin inhibitors caused stunted growth.

Soy phytoestrogens disrupt endocrine function and have the potential to cause infertility and to promote breast cancer in adult women.

Soy phytoestrogens are potent antithyroid agents that cause hypothyroidism and may cause thyroid cancer. In infants, consumption of soy formula has been linked to autoimmune thyroid disease.

Vitamin B12 analogs in soy are not absorbed and actually increase the body’s requirement for B12.

Soy foods increase the body’s requirement for vitamin D.

Fragile proteins are denatured during high temperature processing to make soy protein isolate and textured vegetable protein.

Processing of soy protein results in the formation of toxic lysinoalanine and highly carcinogenic nitrosamines.

Free glutamic acid or MSG, a potent neurotoxin, is formed during soy food processing and added to many soy foods.

Soy foods contain high levels of aluminum which is toxic to the nervous system and the kidneys.

Babies fed soy-based formula have 13,000 to 22,000 times more estrogen compounds in their blood than babies fed milk-based formula.

Infants exclusively fed soy formula receive the estrogenic equivalent of at least five birth control pills per day.

Male infants undergo a “testosterone surge” during the first few months of life, when testosterone levels may be as high as those of an adult male. During this period, baby boys are programmed to express male characteristics after puberty, not only in the development of their sexual organs and other masculine physical traits, but also in setting patterns in the brain characteristic of male behavior.
Pediatricians are noticing greater numbers of boys whose physical maturation is delayed, or does not occur at all, including lack of development of the sexual organs. Learning disabilities, especially in male children, have reached epidemic proportions.
Soy infant feeding―which floods the bloodstream with female hormones that inhibit testosterone―cannot be ignored as a possible cause for these tragic developments. In animals, soy feeding indicates that phytoestrogens in soy are powerful endocrine disrupters.

Almost 15 percent of white girls and 50 percent of African-American girls show signs of puberty such as breast development and pubic hair, before the age of eight. Some girls are showing sexual development before the age of three. Premature development of girls has been linked to the use of soy formula and exposure to environmental estrogens such as PCBs and DDE."

On the other hand, to quote wikipedia:

"Milk began containing differing amounts of fat during the 1950s. A serving (1 cup or 250 ml) of 2%-fat milk contains 285 mg of calcium, which represents 22% to 29% of the daily recommended intake (DRI) of calcium for an adult. Depending on the age, 8 grams of protein, and a number of other nutrients (either naturally or through fortification):
Vitamins D and K are essential for bone health.
Iodine is a mineral essential for thyroid function.
Vitamin B12 and riboflavin are necessary for cardiovascular health and energy production.
Biotin and pantothenic acid are B vitamins important for energy production.
Vitamin A is critical for immune function.
Potassium and magnesium are for cardiovascular health.
Selenium is a cancer-preventive trace mineral.
Thiamine is a B-vitamin important for cognitive function, especially memory
Conjugated linoleic acid is a beneficial fatty acid that inhibits several types of cancer in mice, it has been shown to kill human skin cancer, colorectal cancer and breast cancer cells in vitro studies, and may help lower cholesterol and prevent atherosclerosis; only available in milk from grass-fed cows.

Studies show possible links between low-fat milk consumption and reduced risk of arterial hypertension, coronary heart disease, and obesity. Overweight individuals who drink milk may benefit from decreased risk of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes."

There is no such thing as soy milk, because the soy plant doesn't have a teet, it's soy juice, they just call it soy milk because you can't help but throw up a little in the back of your mouth if you try and say "soy juice."

well as humans we should drink breast milk instead of anything else but then most people would think your weird
Soy milk isnt milk because it doesnt come from anything living
Cows milk is good man with cereal, oatmeal, in watever i am making and to drink cause its good
