What animals are you not allowed to eat (like swans)?!

Question:

What animals are you not allowed to eat (like swans)?

its illegal to kill a swan, and there are animal cruelty laws, but if you are killing it humanly to eat, is it actually illegal to kill (to eat) a dog, cat, budgie..etc in the uk?

Well, to answer your question, I believe sturgeon caught in the river Thames belong to the Queen, although apparently those caught above London Bridge belong to the Mayor of London.

Cats, dogs and horses are protected by (originally Victorian) laws against harm (and therefore eating). Modern laws protect most 'wild' animals such as bats, birds of prey, otters, badgers etc so again, eating them could lead to prosecution.

Most other protection is against the unlicensed hunting of the creatures. For example, game (hare, rabbit, deer, pheasant etc) is different in that you need a license to hunt and to trade in it but it can be eaten.

Not sure about budgies, providing they are killed humanely, though there's not much meat on them. No doubt why you need four and twenty blackbirds to bake in a pie.

.

Maybe, maybe not.

It find it hypocritical, keeping some animals as pets, while happily sending other animals off to be slaughtered. I believe that its morally and ethically wrong.
According to the Hawaiian Humane Society, people can kill dogs ("backyard slaughters") as long as it is for personal consumption, that is, eating the meat with your family. It is not against the law, as long as the dog's death is "quick and painless". BUT why would you post your question on Vegetarian & Vegan Categorie?

What's your point?

Vegetarians don't eat any animals, so go to the hunting or crime section and ask them there.

Actually if you want to eat meat why not go to the market place and buy it. If it's the urge to kill and 'eat' is just your feeble excuse then go to the shrink, he/she can help people with these sort of problems.

dogs are licensed so i dont think dogs
also protected eagles and snowy owls etc
i`m vegetarian, but i do eat pus-y

is that right , the queen and the royal family are given one swan a year ? they are the only ones to eat them. and is a sturgeon over a certain weight meant to be offered to the queen by law?, if i were to buy a cow and punch that cow in the face everyday of it's life can i get done by the rspca? but if i chopped off it's head as they do at slaughter houses for food , can i get done then? . so do you have to have a licence to kill an animal?

Badgers.... but who would want to?

eating animals in general goes completely against vegetarianism/veganism. and since you put it in this section..this is my answer

...I don't think it's legal anywhere, now why are you asking it on here anyway..

Vegetarians do not eat any animals!

humans

It is illegal to kill a swan, only the queen is allowed to eat swan, no one else.

I don't eat anything animal. I'm a vegan. The RSPCA would know.
