Question for vegetarians..?!

Question:

Question for vegetarians..?

New science has shown that plants also feel pain and that they cry too but at a frequency we can't hear. So my question is just because we don't see emotions from plants does that mean it is okay to eat them and not animals?

I am not trying to attack vegetarians. My diet is very close to vegetarian and i know the benefits of eating mostly fruits and veggies.

To begin with, plants have no central nervous system, which means that they can't recognize and experience pain in the same way that animals with brains and nerves can. Most of these so-called "studies" are done by those on the fringes of science, and some of them don't use anything even close to the scientific method to determine their results.

But if someone really wants to stretch the issue, there's the fact that many of the fruits and vegetables we eat are actually the reproductive parts of the plant -- not necessarily the whole plant. Apples, potatoes, tomatoes, nuts, seeds, etc., are only a part of the tree or plant and separate naturally when they're ripe.

And having said that, I just hope someone doesn't accuse vegetarians of "murdering baby plants!" Given the skewed logic that I've seen at this forum, I wouldn't put anything past some folks, though.

Being a vegetarian isn't necessarily about not eating animals due to cruelty issues. Besides which, there is no evidence you can show that would convince many people that plants can ever feel pan. And if they can, you can always do that funky option of not eating something that would die in the process like Woody Harrelson. IN any case, anestesizing plants or animals is a long way from being off. besides, who cares if you kill a carrot? It ain't cute. :-P

Humans and animals have more of a relation in similarity than humans and plants do. Besides that, fruits and vegetables were intended for us to eat, unlike animals.

people watch way to many Disney movies.Quit eating cheerios to,it will make you a cereal killer

I've thought qbout this one alot in my lifetime, and here's what I think. When we eat animals, they were often raised by eating plants. By eating meat, we then, are responsible for the lives of the animals AND the plants they ate. By eating plants only, it lessens the amount of pain we are inflicting on other living things!

I try not to think about that! AAARGH!

Guess we should only eat seeds, nuts, fruit & vegetables that have fallen of the mother plant.

i am not a vegetarian myself, but my friend is. once i told her something similar like that and she stopped eating the fruit she was eating. i don't think she remembers that, she still eats fruits and veggies.

What? Where exactly did you get that "new science?"
Not all vegetarians abstain from meat for cruelty issues. Some do it for the environment, their health or religious beliefs.

Do vegetarians love animals or hate plants?

what? no they don't.

first off:
animals and humans are very simaliar. they have brains, hearts, nerve systems, breed willingly, etc.

secondly:

plants have to be grown by us or there seeds are natually placed on the earth and they grow naturally...they don't breed like animals do. see where i'm going?

even if plants do feel pain and cry it's a fact of survivial. eating plants is more humaine then eating animals.

it's the circle of life and free will.

.....my brain hurts now......lol

ps-if i sounded mean i deeply apologize, i didn't mean it in a mean way.

I truly believe that God put the delicious fruits and veggies on the planet for us to enjoy.

I was once asked this question so I'll present it to you...

Let's say you are in the wilderness. You have a nice tree with some juicy apples on it, and some nice veggies growing in the garden. In the distance, a cow is standing in the pasture.
What would you choose to eat? The veggies and fruits, or would you walk over to the cow and kill it, pick the flesh off and eat it?

I think eating meat in pretty packages is a modern convenience.
If you had to kill the animal yourself, I think you would go vegan.

Good luck.

We gotta eat SOMETHING.
Crying vegetables that's funny. I'll believe that when I see a real scientific paper on it. Maybe three.
I'll eat meat anyways. I keep the fridge door shut so I don't have to listen to the cries of the steak, chicken, or asparagus, apples, or the pineapple I beheaded yesterday.
Give me a break.

You're right, I can handle killing corn but I wouldn't be able to kill an animal because I can see the emotions and the struggle for life. I can't kill the plants needlessly anymore, though - no vases, no fresh Christmas trees at my place...

why r u a vegetarian

I'm vegan, but my choice is not to eat anything that has blood system eg heart, lungs in its body. If you can look into any living animals eyes and not be moved, sorry I couldn't choose who to eat and who not to. Plants of course are reproductive, but unless we can survive on air, I will have to keep eating them.

Goodness gracious, we gotta eat something. Also, what is this "new science" you are talking about? I don't mean to insult you, but there are quacks out there proposing all sorts of things in the name of science.

our deed is to not eat anything with blood. animals

some people eat fruits instead of plants. they eat fruits for they are the eggs of the plant instead of the plants that grow and feel some sort of pain.

it just depends on the person and their believe in pain

No matter what my Friend something has to die so you can eat it for you it shall be as meat, eat or do not eat the what is only for conscience sake.
