Going Vegitarian?!
Going Vegitarian?
I've been thinking about this alot latley and i think it's what i want to do because i've seen how many animals suffer for food and i've relized how wrong it is. My only problem is that my whole family eats meat and i dont know if i could give this up. Can you give me your opinion on this and maybe give me some tips on how to get around eating meat?

Vegetarianism makes a lot of sense.
90%of the energy an organism had before it was eaten is lost in digestion. That means that when a cow eats grass, it gets 90% less energy than the grass had, and when we eat cows, we get 90% less energy than the cows had.
so why would we grow crops to feed cows to eat the cows when the crops give us more energy?
NE ways I'm a vegetarian and I love it.

You might want to start out slow, give up red meat first, than chicken and such. Also talking to your family about it, they could help u out with preparing vegetarian options for you. Look online for veg recipes and tips for staying that way. Good luck! It's hard to do and not much can replace a good steak but to each their own.
well I'm not expert on this but if u do go vegetarian make sure u still get ur protein by eating stuff like penut butter and protein bars. if ur not sure if ur ready to give up meat try it for a week and see if u can i hope this helps
It is a total prefernce of what you eat. If you are not comfortable eating meat then don't. It may make your Mom mad though because you don't eat what she has prepared. You may want to tell her you want to try eating vegetables for a while. Also make sure you get enough protein in your vegetarian diet. You made need suppliments or maybe alot of soy burgers.
hey! ive recently went vegitarian for the same reason, and my family also eats alot of meat. here's what to do, tell your mom calmly, then ask if she can buy you some veggie products, like veggie burgers, veggie chicken, etc. and if she doesnt want to, just refuse to eat any meat, and eventually she'll buy some for you. hope i can help!
yes starve ..... health wise , too much lettuce means too much vitamin K, which means according to your blood make up apossability of blood clots .....vericos veins , stints etc. you need carbs to survive and the minerals in meat or you will be eating pills ,lots of different kind s... measure the cost and what if you dont take enough of some, and develop a problem. we raise cattle and chickens and turkeys and pigs as a food source . think about it your pity could be better channeled.
Going veg is not easy when everyone else eats meat, and you've been eating meat for a long time as well. However, instead of declaring it right away, just eat things besides meat. If asked, Be honest that it is starting to bother you that animals suffer and you just don't have an appetite for meat any longer. Eventually, if you really feel that powerful about it, you can call yourself a vegetarian, and ask that your mom buy Boca burgers and cheese ravioli (and/or tortellini). Black beans with salsa, corn and a little cumin and chili powder is great stuffed inside flour tortillas and baked with enchalada sauce for a few minutes. Just be sure you eat lots of beans, brown rice, almond or soymilk, power bars and lots of veggies. You need certain combinations of proteins to obtain the type you would normally get from animals. Brown rice goes with veggies (green ones preferably) and beans go with veggies with beta carotene (carrots, squash and sweet potatoes). Cheese is good for protein, but watch the fat in it. Yogurt, cottage cheese and milk are excellent sources of protein also.
I'm a vegetarian for health reasons. Not that I do not care about animals, but I think the food chain is part of nature. Don't forget- some animals eat other animals too! How is our eating meat from a cow different than a buzzard eating roadkill?
If your mom's really bad- i have a lot of vegetarian friends that tell me theirs is- just say that you'll starve instead of eating meat. Just do it for two hours, and soon she'll be begging you to eat veggies. Also, you can take part in meal planning. Do the change gradually- just add more and more veggies to meals. then, ask your mom at a convenient time (not in the middle of thanksgiving, etc.) if you can be a veg. She'll say no. Then, give her tons of info and show her how you made an educated decision and with your big brain, you'r mommy's llittle girl. Hopefully, she'll say yes.
As for getting information, visit GoVeg.com and all of PETA's websites.
P.S. Your friends might take a while to realize that NOT ALL VEGETARIANS ARE HIPPIES THAT DRIVE HYBRIDS AND CUDDLE WITH THEIR PET GOAT ALL DAY AND FALL OVER WHEN YOU POKE THEM.
This was me in April of '06. It's a challenge, but you can do it. I didn't think I could, but I've done well so far. Just make sure you graze on fruits, vegetables, yogurt, crackers, nuts, and/or other healthy snacks throughout the day every day so you won't ever get too hungry. Also make sure you get vegetarian food that tastes really good, like pasta with vegetables, salads, pitas, rice dishes, pizza with your favorite vegetables or just cheese, etc. If you eat a lot of fast foods get all the things you like that don't have meat in them from the menu (cheese sticks, fries, onion rings, baked potato, side salad, fruit salad, veggie burger, fried mushrooms, hash browns, eggs, pancakes, oatmeal, smoothies, etc.).
dont do it, our bodies evolved with a dir\et of meat, yo are all ruining evolution
my whole family eats meat all the time. i found this real difucult when i gave up meat. but your family should respect you for your decisions. they should support you. and if they do, that's great! but if they don't support you be willing to cook for yourself, do your own research about it, and stand your ground.
to give up meat i suggest either stoping all togeather or slowly slip away from meat. i just stopped all togeather because i just didn't eat much meat anyway. but if your a major meat eater then i suggest slowly letting meat go. limit yourself to 3 meats a week, then 2, then 1, then eventuly none. but make sure you get enough nutrients. talk to your doctor about that. docs somtimes knows best.
good luck and i support you!!!!
Hey, good for you. I went veggie at an early age, and my whole family eats meat. I survive. But be prepared to make some of your own food. Start by eating less red meat and substituting with salad, pasta, tofu, or something else nutritious. Gradually cut out all meats. Make sure you do your homework and get all your vitamins and minerals. You may need to take some multi- vitamins. Don't take any criticism from your family. Put up a good fight, girl!
I reccomend, if you don't already eat it, to try whole grain pasta and bread because it has a lot of fiber and protein that you will need.
Don't give up meat. If you be a vegetarian you will get a huge iron and protein defficiency leaving you weak. People think that killing animals for food is wrong but if cavemen didnt eat meat the sabre tooths would have killed them all and we wouldnt be here today.
Don't listen to the morons who tell you that you'll be *insert vitamin/mineral here* deficient. If you eat properly then you'll be able to get every single vitamin/mineral that you need. As for your parents try to talk to them calmly and explain your decision to them. And if you need extra motivation go here http://www.petatv.com/tvpopup/video.asp?...
and if you want a support group join peta or some other group. they'll help you out. GOOD LUCK!
good job for you i chose the same path as you but you have 2 stay healthy but start slowly its not hard all you have 2 do is not but meat and instaed buy vegaterian meat and healthy food
hope it goes wel
