First, I live in the midwest so I can take him out "to sea" as someone suggested

I don't think I should try to give him away or take him back to the store because his organs are probably shutting down and diseased after spending so much time in the fridge

Thanks Aguardian I just him down for a nap in the freezer

First of all, lobsters can live for a fair amount of time out water. If he is "blowing bubbles", then he is still healthy and can be safely eaten, but you want to give him a quick death, so freeze the lobster, then stick a knife right behind his head, and don't be squeamish about this.

I am not a vegetarian, but I do believe in treating animals humanely part of which is a quick death that does involve unnecessary suffering and stress. I believe that if you choose to eat meat and seafood that you have to educate yourself on how these are killed and processed, including doing it yourself occasionally, because meat is murder. Lobsters are not sophisticated creatures and they are pretty resilient (I used to be a lobster-man), but they are living creatures, and you have needlessly tortured this lobster by keeping it in a fridge four days because you are to squeamish to quickly put it out of its misery and eat it. You are obviously not mature enough to accept the consequences of your actions.

For more information on humane slaughter, check out Dr. Temple Grandin's website. She is an animal behaviorist who has made it life's mission to design stress free slaughter facilities. And I know that all you vegans will want to jump down my throat and say that you cannot humanely kill an animal, but look at what Temple Grandin has to say, because even if you disagree with animal slaughter, her observations on animal behavior are fascinating.

Buy him an aquarium, name him Jeffy, and make him your pet.

I hope you are not serious!

nice any death this point would be humane i recommend a meat tenderizer.

Take him out of there!! Follow your instincts~dont hurt him.Take him to the sea.

Yeah, there is. Put the lobster in the freezer. It will slowly go to "sleep" and then its fine.

Well. Another is just to eat it. ^___^

Enjoy

why are you not going to eat him , and no there is no humane way of killing anything

take it back to the store, or, give it to someone that will eat it, to just kill it & not eat it will be a waste.

Chop the head off with a butcher knife, give it quick death....

Don't worry, crustaceans have a very simple nervous system that is capable of "feeling" pain but incapable of the higher-order emotions like suffering. The quickest way to kill a lobster is to sever the psyoptic nerve. This is located behind its head.

Why did you buy it if you weren't going to eat it? :(
Next time, get the butcher to kill it for you, if you're so squeamish.

If you live near the ocean, set it free. Maybe it will survive.
If not, the quickest way is to bash its brains out, though that's disgusting.

Are you trying to spare your feelings or the lobster's? Quit being such a ***** and do what you gotta do.

give it to someone with a large enough pot.

i think the best way is to electrocute it. in that way it won't feel the pain, and you won't get the guilt.

a "humane" way to kill it may be putting it in a box and put the box in a large trash bag. Let all your troubles be dumped away.

a "fun" way of killing it is taking turns with anybody throwing it as hard as you can at a large brick wall. Freeze the lobster for best results and also makes any family picnic even more fun

Between the head and the body, shove a knife. You could cut all the way around severing the nerve or scramble his brain, or just lop off his head altogether. Do it quick

Why on earth did you buy him; so you could ask dumb questions?

After 4 days in the fridge & NOT kept in water??
You couldn't pay me enough to eat it now!!!! You can't even keep cooked lobster in the fridge that long. Fresh sea food should be cooked & eaten a.s.a.p. it turns pretty quick.
If you couldn't cook it, then why did you buy it?? You couldn't borrow a large pot???

Throw him in your neighbors yard

There is nothing humane about killing animals for food. There is nothing ethical about it either. We're the most powierful creatures on Earth, so it's our obligation to TAKE CARE of all the other creatures. Our might doesn't automatically give us the right to kill those less powerful than ourselves. If someone says "But we've always eaten flesh for food" in justification of eating flesh, tell them this.... we've also always raped, pillaged, robbed, and murdered other human beings. Because we've always done something, does that make it right?

"When it comes to having a central nervous system, and the ability to feel pain, hunger, and thirst, a rat is a pig is a dog is a boy."
~Ingrid Newkirk, president of PETA

"But for the sake of some little mouthful of flesh, we deprive a soul of the sun and light and of that proportion of life and time it had been born into the world to enjoy."
~Plutarch, on the eating of flesh

Excuse me, but Sir Vix a Lot, gave you erroneous info... lobsters have a rather sophisticated nervous system - maybe other crustaceans do not???

They have a full array of senses - how else can something smell with their antennae and taste with the hairs along their legs?

There is no humane way to kill anything; set your buddy free (if he's still alive in the fridge) and go have a meal at Red Lobster!

Why are you asking this question here? Vegetarians do not condone your behavior and we certainly don't eat lobster.

Unless you want to spend a lot of money at the vet you can cut his head off with a butcher knife and that is pretty short and painless.

I don't know if some people understand but, lobsters can live for an exceptionally long time. So their lives being cut short by boiling alive is extremely cruel or even living in the tank prior being picked out.

It's hard for people to relate because, we are the dominant species on the planet. I am reading a book that talks about the closest thing we can ever consider to being factory farm animals. It's about a concentration camp in N. Korea. Filthy living conditions with some people just waiting to die. It's horrible. If you've ever had a pet you understand that pets feel so do the animals that get eaten. If you eat meat the nicest thing you can do is be humane in treatment of the life and death of animals you consume.

** If he is dying this vegetarian would condone a humane death.

You can try to rehabilitate him but, that requires a tank and money (resources that not everyone can afford to lose). They might also have an animal rescue group in your area. I haven't heard of any that take lobsters. I guess you could try that too.
