How to make my cats vegans, too?!

Question:

How to make my cats vegans, too?

hi, i am a vegetarian who won't eat any meat at all, and its so healthy! plus i think eating animals is wrong. i want mittens & mr. snickers to be as healthy as me, and also i don't want them eating meat. but every catfood i see at the store has fish or chicken in it! some of it even has beef!!! i tried feeding them carrots, but they just spit the pieces out no matter how far i put it in their mouths. is there a brand of catfoot they will eat with no animals in it? or is there a way i can trick them into eating carrots?!?! Maybe boiling them in a chicken broth? thanks.

Edit: Why don't you people read up on the subject before making idiotic claims that cats have to eat meat?

Well, if you want to make your cats sick, go ahead, but seeing as they are carnivores, with carnivore teeth and digestive systems, cats have to eat meat to be healthy.

You may as well ask how to make a lion a vegan. It can't be done without serious health problems, and possibly death for the animal.

Starve Them And Only Put Veggies Out To Eat That What I Did..
Vegetarians Rock

cat well not become vegans

Cats are by nature meat eaters, forcing your cat to be vegetarian just because you are is close to animal cruelty. Cats need and like to eat meat for their health.
Your cats need meat, don't be abusive to them

Sorry, cats are true carnivores. In the wild, they eat a diet of 100% meat. You need to feed your cats a lot of meat, with some fiber, and you have to be absolutely sure that there is enough taurine in their diet. The easiest way to do that is to feed them commercial cat food with meat as the first ingredient. Make sure fillers or byproducts or corn are not the first ingredient. It has to be meat.

Cats cannot be vegans.
Cats are top carnivores. Ask your vet!

Sorry to reply with questions, but
- How is chicken broth ok to a vegan?
- Why are you stuck on carrots?

I don't know of a vegetarian food for cats. Good luck.

This question makes me laugh.

If you want your cats to be as healthy as you a vegan diet is NOT the answer. A vegetarian diet of any kind will make for very unhealthy cats. That would be tantamount to abuse. A diet like that will reduce their lifespan significantly. Cats are carnivores, they need meat. People are omnivores. So just keep in mind, what is healthy for you is not for them. If you want a pet that is not a meat eater, get a bird or a hamster. If you find their eating meat so offensive, please find them a good home that will let them be cats.

I found a website that may be of interest to you. They specialize in selling vegan cat products. Here is a link to their FAQ section entitled: "I don't want to feed my cat ANY meat; what steps can I take to accomplish this?"

http://www.vegancats.com/pages/1007/faq....

The site says it is difficult to keep a male cat 100% vegan, as they can develop urinary tract infections. So you must stay vigilante.

And here is a lengthy article on choices available for the vegan cat: http://www.alternet.org/story/18767/... The article describes a cat who loves eating cantelope and spinach! I had a friend who served his dog a can of green beans every day for its entire life, and it turned out to be one of the longest living dogs I ever knew.

its an animal you cant make it do anything like that, cats eat meat they like mice, frogs, birds, fish, chicken, etc. you know things that have flesh and blood and they like it raw too. i think its funny that you think its wrong to eat meat but your willing to keep an animal against its will, keeping pets is wrong its cruel how would like it if you were held against your will and made to beg for food and water

Why don't you just kill them now so they don't have to suffer from starvation. Are you really that stupid?

I have a hard time believing this question isn't bogus. If you know anything at all about cats you must know they are carnivores. There is no alternative. Unlike dogs, cats do not eat fruit & veggies naturally, with a small exception of chewing some grasses to clean out their system & eating the stomach contents of their prey (which is just a supplament).

Do not attempt to feed your cat a vegetatian/vegan diet. It would mean a slow death by malnutrition. Please call your vet for further details.

There are nutrients required by cats that they can NOT accuire from plants. Their bodies are designed to eat meat. Look at their teeth and this will become odvious to you.

Pleas do not force any kind of food down your cat's throat. You may injur them.

Your choice to not eat meat is just that: your choice.
Do not force an unhealthy diet on your cats just beacuse you think it is wrong. It is not wrong for a cat to eat meat. If this bothers you so much then you should stick to pets that share you dietary interests, like rabbits.

Plase do not make your cat(s) suffer for your own personal belifs.

Sorry but I don't think thats a very good idea, while we can switch over to the veggie life pretty easy they cant. I can understand wanting them to eat healthy and stuff but this is what they like and what they are use to. Maybe one day they'll make veggie cat food :) but not today :(. Give you're cats huggies for me hehe I love cats ^_^.

It should be very obvious to you by now that

CATS ARE NOT MEANT TO BE VEGITARIAN

(much less vegan) !!!!

If you do not want to have meat in your home then you MUST give you cats to a good home that will not abuse them.

Well cats are carnivores. If you want a healthy cat then go with feeding them organic meat. I'm glad you have chosen a home cooked meal though (cat kibble is bad for them) I know its hard but do you want whats best for your cat or whats not so good for your cat but matches your diet?

Theres is a yahoo group about vegetarians feeding their animals raw meat. I think you should check it out.

If you really want to do this, then it is best to ask your vet.

You don't. It isn't humane to impose a vegetarian diet on an animal that is a carnivore.

This is bogus! What true animal conscious vegetarian would shove a carrot in a cats mouth??? And not to mention the chicken broth thing. Thas is absolutely the lamest thing I have ever heard. If you are a vegetarian , please don't think about this- this is exactly what gives us vegetarians a bad rap. There is vegetarian cat food available, but I think being vegetarian is a HUMAN choice to make and not to be pushed onto animals that we are put here to protect.

I can't believe some people here are actually providing links to a vegan cat food site... cats are meant to be meat eaters. If you want to be a vegan, then that's fine, but don't impose your views on your pets' needs.
All it takes is to own a cat to know that they are naturally carnivorous and could never be as healthy on a vegan diet. I doubt they would even survive long on such a diet. Their teeth and their digestive tracts are designed for the proper breakdown of flesh.

Just because you're a vegetarian doesn't mean you should make your cats vegetarians. Until they are able to communicate with humans and are able to tell you if they'd like to give up meat or not do not change their diet (unless their health is at risk...which could happen if you choose to make them stop eating meat). You also contradicted yourself by saying "Maybe boiling them in chicken broth" it's called CHICKEN broth for a reason.

u r not funny! whats wrong with you? its not even funny what your saying about your cats! on this site! i hope you choke! ;0
