My sister says she is a vegetarian, but she still eats fish.?!
My sister says she is a vegetarian, but she still eats fish.?
how does this make any sense at all? I mean, I am a meat eater and I understand totally if you want to be vegetarian, but if you aren't eating meat so an animal doesn't have to die to feed you , what are you saying? a fish isn't really an animal? it isn't tortured or killed the same? it just seems wildly hypocritical to me and I don't want to ask her as I don't want to start a fight. but seriously--any vegetarians who can explain this train of thought to me? cause I feel like you eat animals or you don't. not "I don't eat meat except fish" what is that about? seriously, I am curious. thanks.
Answers:
shes talking out of her @rse. veggies dont eat living things, vegans dont eat any animal product. ive heard of people who think that they are a veggie and still eat fish or white meat but in reality they are deluded and probably acting this way for attention. its also interesting to tell a vegetarian that most alcohol other than spirits is cleared using either ground up shellfish shells or gelatine from cow bones, especially when you are in a pub with them having a drink.
She's not.
I'm sorry but fish are animals to. And it really hurts them when they get killed. I mean a fish hook through the jaw. That must hurt. It is your sisters idea why she considers herself a Vegan. Just go with it :)
okay so there are tons of different types of vegetarians. there are Vegans (they dont eat anything, eggs, milk, fish, meat, and so on) and there is Pescatarian which eat all meat except fish, and Flexitarian/Semi-vegetarian, which havce a mainly vegitarian diet but still eat meat every once and a while, Lacto-ovo-vegetarian who eat no meat except for that they eat eggs and milk and stuff, Lacto-vegetarian who eats eggs but not meat and dairy products, and last but not least a Pesco-Vegetarian, who include fish in their diets. There are many diffrent types of Vegitarians and you sister just happens to be a Pesco-Vegetarian
People have different reasons for being vegetarian. I don't like the taste of beef or poultry, but I do like fish. I don't eat meat because I don't like it, and I don't think the factory sort of farms we have today are particularly healthy or humane. At least wild caught fish get to spend their natural life doing what nature intended, not raised in a dark cage fed hormone, antibiotic, "food products".
The vegetarian community recognizes "levels" of vegetarianism.
For instance, lacto-ovo vegetarians will consume milk and eggs, but not flesh, as the animals isn't actually killed for the milk or eggs.
I can't remember all of the terms. The fish eaters are called icthy-something.
Ask her in a nice way. I'm sure she'll be delighted to share her thoughts if it is a legitimate question, not a challenge.
I am vegetarian and I definately do not eat fish. Fish are living creatures.
She is a 'pesci-vegetarian' (a vegetarian who eats fish). Strictly that would make her semi-vegetarian rather than fully vegetarian but since you sound as if you have a typical sister-sister relationship, having the opportunity to apply the term 'pesci' to her on a regalar basis, whatever the spelling, might be worth overlooking the 'semi'.
I agree -- it's wildly hypocritical. If someone wants to call herself a vegetarian, she shouldn't be eating anything with a face. (Mind you, I'm an avowed carnivore. I love the tasty critters!) I get tired of people who are so smug about being vegetarian, but say things like "but I eat fish" or "but I always have ribs on my birthday" (that's from a friend of mine).
The real vegetarian eat no meat.
Most of the motivation to be a vegetarian have the reason as follow:
1.Good health:
too many antibiotic and pollution in the meat , after they die to feed you , it does body really bad,
2.Charity to the animal:
as you say ,don't kill the animal to torture them, all being are equity.
3.spiritual practitioner: Most spiritual master will tell the disciple,
do not eat meat to get higher spiritual level.
you can ask your sister which reason she belongs to. On the other hand ,that is a good start for your sister to eat no meat for all the reasons above, at least, she eats less meat than normal people.
she's not a vegetarian if she eats fish.. fish are animals.. if it's the only meat she eats she could say semi-vegetarian. True Vegetarians never eat any meat. I have a sister that says she's Vegan but she drinks milk...so she's not a Vegan.... I'd call her a semi-vegan.. cause True Vegans don't eat animals or anything from animals!
im also a Pescaterian. I am because it is said that red meat contains more fat than white meat. In addition, most chicken farmers feed hormones to the chickens so i dont eat it. it has also been scientifically proven that fish is the healthiest meat there is because it does not go through all that hormones and chemicals like the other meats. Some people just dont like some meats.
your sister becomes a follower of Religion that only eat vegetable and fish and eggs - no meat
your sister is zoologically impaired.
Some vegetarians eat fish because it is a good sorce of fatty acids. That can be difficult to get when you are a veg. Other vegs eat fish because they are still trying to cut out meat, and going cold turkey can be hard.
Just to clarify Ovo vegs eat eggs, Lacto vegs eat dairy, Pesco Vegs eat fish....so if you eat eggs, dairy and fish, you would be called an Ovo lacto pesco veg.
As others have said there are many types of vegs. And the best way to find out why your sis still eats fish is to ask her.
Hope this helped
no ur sister is not vegetration if she eats fish.
I am vegetarian 15 years :
1. There are diffrent types of vegeterian.
2. If she likes fish - it is ok
3. Some of vegetarian are not always good people,
some of meat eater are not always good people.
Your sister is mistaken. She is not a vegetarian at all despite some answers you are getting here. No Vegetarian eats fish..period.
If u r a vegetarian u can eat fish chicken and you may drink milk!!!!! If u r a vegan you may not eat any meat or substances produced from an animal such as milk eggs or anything!!!! Or if u r a very strict vegeritian u may not eat fish!!!! I am the same as ur sister i will eat fish chicken and I love milk but I am considered a vegeritian!!!!!!
There are many different types of vegetarians.
There are semi-vegeterians: They don't eat anything but chicken and fish.
Lacto-ovo vegetarians: Eat no meat, but still eat eggs and dairy.
Ovo-vegetarians: Eat eggs but no dairy.
Lacto vegetarians: Eat dairy but not eggs.
Vegans: Eat nothing with an animal by product. No dairy, eggs, or anything with animal products in it. They often do not wear animal products either.
Pesctarians(spelling?): Eat nothing but fish.
Many vegetarians believe you cannot be a vegetarian if you eat fish. This can be true, you cannot be a complete vegetarian. However, I believe if you are making the effort, then you can be considered a vegetarian...but she should really call herself by what she is. A Pesctarian(spelling). In reality, that is what she is. She is truely not a vegetarian. Talking to her about it, may help her realise it. If she wants to really be a vegetarian, she needs to give up fish as well.
I am the same as your sister, and yes there are different categories of vegetarians. I myself do not eat red meat and very little poultry--only if it's organic. I eat fish occasionally, but for the most part I only eat fruits and veggies (and lots of tofu). If you sister is doing this for health reasons, then she is not a hypocrite. If she is an animal rights activist, then you might have more of a case for hypocricy.
