Did you like cheese or eggs before becoming vegan?!

Question:

Did you like cheese or eggs before becoming vegan?

what helped you part from those foods?

Answers:
I'm not vegan, but I eat kosher... does that count?

I STILL eat those food, for one thing you need to get your proteins from an animal source, besides I just keep away of meat that has been cruel sacrifice for our consume.

I never gave those up cause I'm not vegan.. I'm vegetarian. I like cheese and eggs just too much to give them up.. A vegetarian doesn't need them for protein.. There are more protein in plants than animals.. Just look how healthy the vegetarian animals are! Horses, Cows, Rabbits! I drink milk too. It be hard to become a Vegan.. not hard to be a vegetarian I just don't eat any animals! No animal has to be killed to eat egg, cheese or drink milk! I'd probably be healthier if I gave up these comfort foods cheese, eggs, milk! But I just like them far too much!

I did like cheese - a LOT (a little too much!) but didn't care much for eggs. I would buy a dozen for baking and then about 8 of them would end up being thrown out. So eggs were very easy to give up and I haven't missed them at all. (It helps to know substitutes to use in baking).

As for cheese, once I decided to do it for the animals, it wasn't a huge challenge. The mental image of a calf being ripped from it's mother to be stuffed in a veal crate was enough for me to give up the dairy. A dairy cow's life isn't much fun either - pumped full of hormones and antibiotics, impregnanted year after year (of their much shortened life), painfully swollen udders (bred to be much larger than normal), suffering from mastitis, etc.

Finding good vegan recipes also helped me to give up dairy products. (I strongly suggest www.vegweb.com for some great recipes. ) When I first started switching to veganism, I realized that so many of the foods I ate relied heavily on dairy (and I had an extra 10 pounds on at the time too!). As I ate less and less dairy, finishing up the dairy I had in my apartment, I became aware of the negative impact dairy was having on my health. After 2 or 3 weeks being mostly dairy free, I caved and ate about half a jar of nacho cheese. That night, my sinuses flared up. I had had sinus problems for years and could never figure out what was causing them. Any time I had dairy after that, I noticed the same reaction. That *really* helped me give it up!

"did you like cheese or eggs before becoming vegan? "

-Very much.

"what helped you part from those foods?"

- Learning about were they came from and the health, and animal rights issues involved. As much as I thought I would, I really don't miss them at all.

I still eat cheese and drink milk, and eat eggs. I'm transitioning into a vegetarian right now, and I know I just won't be a vegan. Nothing hurt the animal to milk it, have it lay eggs. I mean have you ever heard a cow moo, and cry because it isn't being milked? It is in pain! It needs to be milked, it helps them.

I love eggs and cheese too much to get rid of it. :)

Cheese was always kinda ok in a small amount. I never liked meat or eggs.

I love food! Still do as a vegan. I loved cheese and eggs. Once I had stopped eating dairy for a fitness contest and when I went back to eating it, I was like fyvel and got such a reaction of sinuses! and my joints hurt! I found out that I was allergic to dairy and didn't really noticed it till I quit eating it and then I reintroduced it back into my body. And when I saw all the bad things about egg-laying chickens, I went to organic eggs. And then some companies are calling their eggs organic, but they still have the same factory farming techniques but feed the chickens organic food. I don't know who to believe so I had my own chickens, and after three years of caring and cleaning up after them I said too much work! So now no eggs. It is usually hard to give up anything in the first year. It gets easier and easier. Now when I get a craving for cheese I recognize that my body is trying to tell me that it needs more calcium (broccoli or molasses) or fat (avocado or peanut butter).

Yes very much. In fact I used to eat meat and gave it up about 8 yrs ago. I love animals and they all have as much right to live as we do. After reading more about the dairy industry and the chicken farming factories and about the various cruel methods they indulge in I gave up those. Whenever I think about milk and eggs they remind me that they are cruel food and by giving them up it has totally eliminated my 'guilt factor'.

I used eggs sparingly, but cheese was pretty good.i would probably still eat cheese, but it is hard to even find vegetarian friendly cheese, because most cheeses use rennet,so it isn't even vegetarian friendly. So I don't really miss it.anything that tasted good with cheese still tastes good without it, like nachos, spaghetti, pizza, etc.I do kind of miss macoroni and cheese though, but not that much.
