Why are most omega-3 fish oil supplements non-vegetarian?!
Why are most omega-3 fish oil supplements non-vegetarian?
I know it seems like a ridiculous question but I'm asking on behalf of a person who likes to worry a bit too much. Is it simply because they kill or 'mistreat' the fish to extract what they need?
Answers:
Because fish oil comes from fish which is an animal but you can get Omega-3 oils from other non-animal places.
When you do buy Omega-3 oils though you should only buy pharmaceutical grade. It will say it right on the bottle. If it doesn't say it then it's not. Non-pharmaceutical grade Omega-3 oils can have too much mercury in them which is bad for you.
eat seeds
some of them got omega-3
Most vegetarians don't want to kill animals to eat. They kill the fish before they extract the oil. You can't get omega-3 out of a live fish, it's not like milking a cow.
The fish must be killed to get fish oil. Flax seed is a great Vegetarian & Vegan omega-3 Supplement.
Fish oil is a by-product of fish. Any real fish oil will not be vegetarian as it's part of fish. It would be the same as having beef dripping (just more fishy!)
omega 3 i believe can be obtained from non-animal sources but if yours says that it is not suitable for vegetariens then i would assume that they may extract the omega 3 directly from the fish and the fish would most likely be killed in the process.
Ummm, because it comes from a fish....
Omega-3 comes from fish. The closest to getting the omega fatty acids that's vegan is lechitin and flax seeds.
Simply if it comes from fish it is not vegan, only products from fruits, vegetables & grain are considered vegetarian.
How they treat the creature is of no consequence on the labeling - either its vegetable or its not.
Thimk about it...Fish oil....Vegetarian? I don't think so!!!
Basically true vegetarians dont eat fish!! They don'teat any form of meat, bird or fish!! A fishwould have to be dead in order to get oils from it!!
Omega-3 supplements come in gelatine capsules. Gelatine is an animal by product and obviously unsuitable for vegetarians. Your friend can buy omega-3 in liquid form.
By the very nature of it, ALL fish oils, or other animal oils are non-vegetarian
Yoi cannot extract the oil without killing the creature. If you did it would be extreme cruelty.
They get the fish oil out of a fish. They kill the fish to get the oil. Most vegetarians don't eat animals who have been killed. It defeats the purpose of being a vegetarian if you eat things like gelatin and fish oil--the animal was killed and you're eating something that came from its body. It's not necessarily meat, but it comes from a dead animal.
Because they come from fish - which are animals not vegetables! Of course they kill the fish to get the oil.
I really don't know, it would seem kind of pointless to harm the animal, then put it in a vegetarian capsule doesn't it. If your friend want omega-3 fatty acid, s/he doesn't need to take a supplement, Flax seed is a good source of omega-3, so are almonds.
its because fish aren't suitable for a veggie, simple.
i do wonder what all the obsession is with Omega-3. I'd never heard of it a couple of years a go and now everyone seesm to think they need to take suppliments of it to survive.
