Are veggie meats bad for you?!
Are veggie meats bad for you?
Is it true that eating isolated proteins from soybeans and stuff is harmful as opposed to eating the whole bean as part of a well balanced diet? Also one of the health risks of meat consumption is kidney damage from too much protein. Would veggie meats cause the same problem? There was a time when I loved vegetarian hot dogs but now I don't like them anymore. Is my body telling me something?

Daver, there is no need to be sarcastic. Looks like you haven't woken up to the 21st century yet. Veggie meats from a health perspective are closer to meats than to "veggies". I'm only talking about their effect on the body, not how they were made. I think YOU slept through that class where they put beans and nuts in the same food group as meats.

Just so you know, the vegetarian meat is worst than the real thing. They are canned and can last up to 20 years, because of the preservatives. If you want good and healthy veggie meat, you have to buy the one that looks like dry crumbs. You can find it in Nature Food stores. You can season it to your liking.
Whole foods are always better than processed stuff. The processed stuff is harder to digest and usually has chemical additives. If you want to be really healthy- pick up a macrobiotic cookbook. Christina Pierello has a couple of interesting ones. Just thumb through them.
There is no such thing as Veggie meat. It is either a veggie (grown as food) or meat (harvested from animals).
Lern't me that in 1st grade from the food group chart. Were you sick the day they taught that general knowlege tid-bit?
Don't listen to that first answer take it from a vegan fake meats don't last that long because there are not very many preservatives although it varies from product to product. In all truthfullness veggie meats are good for you but they can be bad for b/c of the salt content(same for fake cheeses you find in stores) the key is moderation, if you still want fake meats than you should make them like seitan makes for a great philly cheese steak, (i have a great recipe for that) or oven fried chicken tofu(got a recipe for that) you're not vegan are you? cuz i got a really good cheese substitute recipe also if you're interested. As far as getting the same health probs from them, i would say no meat and meat analouges are made up of 2 different components, just up your veggie intake maybe not eat so much fake meat and you'll be fine. I hope this helps.
Eating a variety of foods is good for you, period. And yes, that applies to vegetarians and vegans as well. Eating a variety of foods within your own moral limits is healthy.
Soy isolates are enriched with several minerals and vitamins that are crucial to overall health, such as iron, zinc and Vitamin B12.
People who are on restricted diets because of kidney disease are on diets that are free or pretty much free of animal products and therefore of animal protein, but not of other protein sources. The elimination of the waste products of animal products by our bodies taxes the kidneys incredibly, and among other things, causes our kidneys to draw extra calcium from our bones in order to neutralize the acidity of those byproducts. That's where and why the damage occurs, from animal sources of protein, not all sources.
