How did the Texas 1015 onion get it's name?!
All onion fans know the Vadalia onion is from Vadalia Georgia but how did the Texas 1015 sweet onion gets its name!? I was in the Rio Grande valley a couple of years ago and noticed the Farm to Market Road numbered 1015 and wondered if there was any connection!. My brother says no! It has to do with the onion needing to be in the ground by October 15th!. Who is correct!? Www@FoodAQ@Com

This onion was introduced in 1985 after 10 years of research in the Rio Grande Valley!. The planting date was Oct!. 15, hence then name Texas 1015!. It has nothing to do with FM 1015!. It is the sweetest onion in the world!.

Dr!. Leonard Pike, a Texas A & M faculty member, is responsible for the 1015 onion that made it's debut in 1983!. The name came from the ideal planting date of Oct!. 15!. 1015's are available March through mid June!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
