I am a former chef and trained in French cuisine and it is not something the french people or chefs thought of, like the other fellow said mentioning snails, like frogs legs, oysters, eels and other some what strange foods to people outside France, they were actually introduced and made popular back in Ancient Roman times, they ate anything and everything from swans to wild animals from Africa and all seafood edible they found, so alot of the European diets from other country's were started either by the Romans, Saxons or Vikings in there various conquests and bringing foods from the lands they travelled to and colonized, the french have kept more of the older traditions like frog legs, tripe, various offal (organs meats) and other food not common outside France!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

They probably started when one unfortunate frog jumped by mistake onto a prehistoric Frenchman's fire!.

They taste a bit like chicken, but with very thin bones and not a lot of meat!.

Most frogs' legs incidentally are imported from India nowadays!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
