Gelatin that is most commonly found in stores is derived from animal protein, like the gelatin you buy for making Jello etc!. But there are also other forms of gelatin that are vegetarian as well as kosher!. There are some rare forms of gelatin made from fish bones (rarely used these days)!. More popular is carrageen, which comes from seaweed, and agar which also comes from seaweed (and is stronger than animal gelatin, so when you're substituting for regular gelatin, use less)!.
Finally, there is also pectin, which is found naturally in fruits and vegetables and is used when making jams and jellies!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I totally agree with CelticWarrior!. A product/jelly that contains gelatin usually has pork in it!. As a Muslim, I'm forbidden to eat pork, so I avoid gelatin altogether!. But if it is kosher gelatin, that usually means that it's from beef or lamb!. Occasionally, if I cannot find halaal gelatin, I will opt for this!. If you're interested, you might want to try the Jell-O brand!. Try calling customer service to verify if the info I provided you with is accurate!. But I've also seen jelly suitable for vegetarians at Halaal Markets that's made of either carrageen (as CelticWarrior mentions) or agar (both vegetarian)!. Sometimes, they have jelly made of fish too!. If you want to inquire about a certain product, I suggest calling customer service!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Are you speaking of gelatin or jelly!? Gelatin is made from boiled bones of food animals!. Jelly for the most part is from fruit or flowers, but I have seen jelly made from animal products!. The bottom line is, is to read the ingredients carefully!. If in doubt, write down their help number on the back of the product and give them a call, they legally have to tell you what is in it :)Www@FoodAQ@Com
