Wording invitations?!

Question: I want to start an annual christmas party for my family and friends- can anyone help think of a catchy phrase for the head line to let them know to dress up- but also a non- tacky way to word assigning dishes and drinks when rsvping- or like sending a list of food, drinks and paper products to let them choose what they want to bring.
please tell me your fun ideas and things youve done!
thanks.

1st Annual (family name) Christmas Party!
Dress your best for our new Christmas tradition! Join the (family name) family and friends as we celebrate this holiday season together! We'll have a sophisticated evening of dinner and festive drinks, along with good company to share in our good times!........whatever whatever.....
date:
location:
Please RSVP to get your dish assignment for dinner to 555-555-5555 by 11/10/07

then you can have a list of things you'll need for dinner like
plates/silverware
side dishes
relish tray
appetizers
potato dish
desserts
soda/beer
etc....
then as people RSVP you can either ask which one they'd like to bring or you can mix it up and pick assignments from a hat for each person to make. that way you won't have the same dishes from people every year, they'll be forced to make something maybe they wouldn't normally make. make sure you keep tack of what everyone was assigned incase they forget and call you the day before!

boy, you are the brave one having all the family over! God bless you on that :)

Party's like this can be a lot of fun and hassle. But this is what I would do. In the invitation mention that evening wear is appropriate for dinner. Also, generalize your food categories and randomly select people to bring what they want. For instance, breads/rolls, salads, meat entree, vegetables, deserts, paper products, etc... It actually can be fun and the food will be like a church fellowship. You never know what your gonna get. I would like to add that you should have people RSVP so you can let everyone know how many people to cook for also, I believe as the host, you should provide a large meat dish like a roasted turkey...,But remember it is not the food but the people that make a memory. Happy Holidays.

For our family parties, it is $10 per person and everyone has to buy a gift for their child. The money should be given in advance but if not it will be given to the person having the party that day. If you can front that money then you will not have to worry about a tacky list included in the invite. For those who think $10 is too much can just stay home and bah-hum-bug to them! You can word it "1st Annual Christmas Celebration2007-Lets make this tradition last with sophistication!
