How do you serve a 3, 5 and 7 course dinner?!


Question: How do you serve a 3, 5 and 7 course dinner!?
I am hoping to have a dinner party and thought I'll try to make it a bit fancy!! But I do not know when to serve what!!!.!.I have tried searching on the net but have not got any solid advice so far!.!.what I like to know is how do start the meal - with a salad or soup then what comes next!? can you serve soup and salad both!?!?!.!.thanks!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can serve soup and salad both!.

You generally want to go from light to heavier back to light!. How you do this is up to you, and that's why you're having trouble finding hard and fast rules about it!. (They had them in the 19th century, but people ate so much more back then that the rules are not always practical now!.)

When you plan a menu like this, you're planning an artistic piece, and should think about how the flavors and textures will flow!. Thus, you try to make sure every course compliments the others!. Contrast is also important!. For example: you wouldn't want creamy dish after creamy dish, because people would get tired and sated with creamy textures!. You want to intersperse hot and cold dishes, spicy dishes and dishes that quench the spice, and oily dishes with acid dishes, so that there's never too much of any one thing!. If you're a good cook, your instinct will guide you!.

Generally, a multi-course meal starts with a hot appetizer or soup, goes to something chilled like a salad, and then starts building on however many protein-based dishes there are (fish before meat, traditionally)!. After the entree, there is something refreshing and acid (lemon sorbet's a popular choice, sometimes the salad is served here instead of earlier), which either is the dessert or is followed by the dessert!.

The French like to finish their meals with fresh fruit, which is both refreshing and aids digestion, if you can get good fruit!.

I'd say start with mingling with drinks (cocktails if you are of age, some fancy seltzer if you aren't) and then integrate hors d'oeuvres!.

Then move to the table for appetizers, then soup/salad, then the maincourse, then dessert, then coffee!.

With multi-course meals, aim for small but elegant choices and prepare as much as possible before hand so you can sit down and enjoy the meal with your friends!. keep it simple is more relaxing!. If this is your first time to be fancy !. remember people enjoy the company as much as the meal!. I would start out with a 3 course meal!. a starter can be a cold soup or salad!. than a entree !. a paused after the entree than coffee with desert !. the main purpose to any entertainment is to make people feel comfortable!. prepare as much food as you can before they arrive!. than you too will relax !.
