My wife wants to eat her placenta. Is it ok if she is vegan?!

Question: My wife wants to eat her placenta!. Is it ok if she is vegan!?
So my wife is 32 weeks in and has decided that she wants to eat her placenta!. I know it sounds gross and weird but a lot of animals do it (even herbivores) and she did some research and found it help with postpartum depression!.

I'm just wondering if it is ok for her to eat it because we are vegan and well, it's meat!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
It is meat, but nobody died for it to become food!. also it never had a face!. It is probably okay as far as the vegan issue is concerned!.

As a matter of fact the proteins she will probably get from the placenta would be very good for her considering she has just finished growing a baby and she is probably going to be breastfeeding that baby!. Those things take a lot of energy and a lot of vitamins!.

If she wants to, then she should!. If she changes her mind at the last minute, don't make an issue of it, just have another all natural back-up plan ready!.

For instance: Many cultures have the mother bury the placenta in a special place known only to her!. If she changes her mind about eating it, she might be open to that suggestion!. Personally I would not advise suggesting that unless she starts to wonder about the first plan!. New mommies have a funny way of having unscheduled emotional outbursts over any number of "very important" issues!.

Of course if she has the baby in the hospital they probably won't let her eat the placenta!. They are really funny about things like that!. They didn't even like the idea of having the baby in a squatting position at the hospital I went to!.

Added comment: also I am pretty sure that she can drink her own breast milk and still be a vegan!. Breast milk will not make her sick!. It is delicious and very healthy!. She should save most of it for the baby, though!. Leave the colostrum for the baby!. That has the antibodies that the baby needs to stay healthy!.

Oh! When her milk comes in, about 2 or 3 days after the baby is born, she will need some help dealing with the swollen and sore breasts!. You can drink some of the milk for her!. also bags of frozen peas or corn are very helpful for relieving some of the swelling and pain!.

I believe the bottom line is: These are her own body parts!. She is not harming any other animal by consuming these items!.

Unless she is producing babies for the sole purpose of having placenta and breast milk, I am pretty sure she will be within the rules of veganism!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you are a vegan who is concern with animals life!. it is ok!. Let him eat her placenta!. I think she is craving for meat and still don't want to eat animal meat!.

If you are a vegan concern for your own health, it is controversial!.

Woman's placenta is nutritious in fact, it is used in soaps and other cosmetic products and placenta makes your wife look younger!.

Chinese cuisine also have a lot of idea to cook it!. just avoid to cook it with animal fats, milk, cheese, egg and other animal products!.

It is also ok if she will drink her breast milk but just 25% or less!. The 75% for the baby!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

"Then comes the practice of placentophagia, eating the placenta, is also practiced in some parts of the world!. There are even meal like recipes for cooking placentas, including placenta stew, placenta lasagna, power drinks with blended placenta and others!. Though some mothers have been reported to eat placenta raw!."

I imagine it's okay to eat!. :]Www@FoodAQ@Com

I imagine your wife will change her mind about this, especially in light of the fact that she is a vegan!. Trust me, it's not a pleasant thing to see, much less to eat!.

And no, she really can't call herself a vegan after eating a placenta!. Or I guess she could call herself a vegan with a one time lapse!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Her body is going have a really tough time digesting the meat if she has been vegan for a long time!. Not a good idea dude!. I am a vegetarian and it would be impossible for me to eat anything that is meat!.

Looking at your additional details, I think you are just posting some fake question to get attention!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It depends on whether she self-defines as an animal, when the definition of a vegan is 'someone who doesn't eat, wear or use animal products'!. I would say it was justifiable not to see yourself as an animal in this context!. Just as a baby isn't abusing another animal (its mother) by drinking her milk!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think this would be the ultimate vegan exception haha!. I'm sure it's fine if that's what she really wants to do!. Veganism is often defined by one's own personal views of where the line is drawn!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

i think, as it is a part of herself, that it's okay!. It's like if you prick your finger and suck it to stop the bleeding, but more extreme!. I couldn't do it, but I understand the theory and the ancient custom of the practice!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I find cannibalism just as revolting as veganism, frankly!. Eat whatever you want, including the baby- it's all meat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If she can gag it down, more power to her!. Personally, I find the idea revolting!. Why not do cord blood banking instead and eat an apple!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Oh sick!.!.i saw it and almost passed out after the birth of my baby!.!.!.ive heard of other people doing that too and!.!.i dont even know what to say!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i think you should share it!. why should she get all the meaty goodness!?
its ok to chew your fingernails too if you get nervous during the delivery!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
